The thing that is bothering me right now is that seems like they are playing to the "deadline". Getting a deal done sooner than the 11th would be the best to try and save face with some of us.

I was watching an espn clip (which is bad anyway) and Bucci and Melrose were talking about the fans. They both agreed that a "Thank you fans" note painted on the ice would be a really really bad idea.

What are ideas that would be good ones for us? Bucci mentioned free center ice package which would be cool. Do you guys have any others?

Free center ice is a good one. Massive discounts on tickets, concessions and merchandise is probably another way to say they are sorry for being assholes.

If you bought a ticket to just one game the previous season, they should send you a discount offer for tickets, again for this season. I expect each team will probably offer something.

I was pissed about a 48-game schedule. After thinking about it I think it is going to be pretty intense if they get this thing done. Only in conference games which saves me from having to see my beloved Sabres play the Coyotes or Blue Jackets.

Nobody would have to worry about long road trips and massive time changes.

Just like the last few months, I expect them to do absolutely nothing.

In fact I wouldn't even blink if both sides stood up at the podium and simultaneously put up their middle fingers and walked off the stage.

What would really be great is if they both got their collective shit together and agreed to a new CBA say in the next day or two, they could go for a 60 game season. Wishful thinking most likely...:frusty:

I wouldn't discount anything at this point, Tox.

the owners have proven to me that they are mostly just a group of greedy hicks that don't know the difference between their ass and a hole in the ground. Their willingness to go this far again with another lockout is still staggering to me. Greed rules their entire livelihood.

And the players made their deal with the devil when they hired Fehr to rep them.

I hope the two sides made a New Years resolution to actually get a deal done...

Interesting quote from yesterday...

How many issues remain if the two sides are to bridge the gap and hammer out the framework for a new collective bargaining agreement?

"Nobody's counting like that," Bettman said. "We're not trying to keep score, we're trying to get an agreement done."

Really? Because it sure looks like a dick measuring contest from my vantage point! Where was this attitude... in fucking August!

If all that is keeping this from being done is the term length they can all go to hell.

Exactly...When Bettman says we should have an agreement in August or last January, I get really angry. How could you get a new agreement when Gary and his cronies aren't even close to negotiating?

It struck me this morning that part of the new CBA should be that each side submits a fully completed CBA proposal on the date ONE YEAR prior to the end of the current deal. Then... MAYBE... we'd miss no hockey.

Dreger has been pretty pessimistic throughout this ordeal, but he is tweeting the following:

DarrenDreger: By not filing, seems to me, a clear sign a deal is close. Wait for PA exec board to decide today.

what i dont understand, is the money the league has collectively lost, both in real $$ and projected loss of popularity, probably far outweighs what they're going to save by 'winning' the negotiation.. these guys are buffoons.

Short term pain for long term gain. They know the money making possibilities have never been greater. Four years from now this mess will be a distant memory. They want to set themselves up to rake that cash in as fast as their greedy hick hands can handle. They went about it the wrong way and could have enjoyed a greater profit if they had their shit together, sooner. Yet they still will rake it in after the cba is hammered out. The 04/05 lockout reinforced their convictions to turn the screws on the PA, and screw us fans over, too.

They know we will be back.
