easy now. this is Wang and Snow. They may see value in keeping him still :D

well ... he's chronically injured ... i am sure his contract is insured ... so Wang doesnt have to pay him ... and keeping him on the cap means Wang doesnt have to spend actual dollars on actual players

its the Islander way!

Two buyouts! Martin will have some company as a free agent, I guess. Maybe Kunitz? :noidea:

good choice.. fuck that guy

Haha!

I like Kunitz. He is a grinder with a scoring touch. Just don't think he's worth 3.725 per. Especially if the cap is only 60mil in 2013-14.

I could actually see the Pens only using one compliance buyout with the obvious choice being Paul Martin. They are in pretty good shape as far as a smaller cap goes.

Dupuis, Cooke, Kennedy and Adams are all off the books after this year. Cap payroll leading into next season is around 52 million.

There are a ton of teams not so fortunate.

the pens are in great shape, there's no question.. ray shero is a dickhead (read: mastermind).. though, i would at least give fleury some thought.. he's paid some big bucks and he sucked donkey dick last year

after looking like they were up the creek without a paddle, the flyers aren't in dire straights either.. they'll use one to counteract perma-LTIR'ing pronger and then most likely use the other on bryz unless he's the second coming in between when this lockout ends, and youre allowed to use the buyout.. aside from that i really dont hate any of the flyers contracts

If the Flyers shitcan humongous, who will play between the pipes? You sent your best backup away, already.

And yes, Ray has done a brilliant job trimming the fat off the bottom line of the Pens cap. I hope this will open the door to re-sign Malkin and Letang.

DarrenDreger: Further to @Real_ESPNLeBrun. Buyouts still count against players' share, Players do not like that. Prefer dollars were outside system.

I would be shocked if Backstrom and Howard get that far. As for the other ufa's.. They aren't exactly young.

If any team is up for the goalie carousel ride, it's Philly. I do see them buying out Bryz's contract, provided he doesn't deliver a stellar half season. Maybe that will be his secret planfor dominance.

Reasons I think Ray Shero is a genius: while we all sat staring blankly at the Michalek trade because it was a salary dump, he shrewdly was preparing for the future. Brilliant honestly. Also, the Pens are in good shape because their strength lies in the youth on D coming up the line. Morrow, Harrington, Despres, etc. As much as a $60M cap stinks, they can manage it if the youth steps up. In regards to the buyouts, I don't think the Pens use them. I'd like to think they'd use it on Martin, but I don't know that they really want to get rid of Martin. I'm sure they wish he was cheaper, but not bought out. Other than him I don't see any terrible contracts. The other possibility was Michalek, who was dropped.

That's why I'm still buying the theory that some GMs knew what was coming. Lou, Shero, Holland all did pretty well cap wise. Sure they were going after Parise, but I have a hard time believing some of the best GMs in the league would go all in with no sort of backup plan in case they missed out. Now they are all in pretty good shape if/when the cap drops.

A big part of the buyouts may come down to which owners have the stomach for the cash portion of the buyout.

For instance, I don't see a guy like Jacobs giving his approval to too many buyouts because he wouldn't like shelling out cash for a guy who isn't even on the roster anymore.

and on this point ... Luongo isnt getting bought out* ... reportedly would be 27shmill under new cba

*the Leafs might end up buying him out at a later date
