and on this point ... Luongo isnt getting bought out* ... reportedly would be 27shmill under new cba

*the Leafs might end up buying him out at a later date

Could actually make for some interesting trade deals though. If one team is up against the Cap and doesn't have the stomach for a cash buyout a second team that is willing to put up with the cash buyout could probably use that as leverage to get a good deal.

cba signed > next day > Luongo trade announcement

Talk about circumvention. I have a feeling those would cause some issue.

I don't really see it as that much of a change from a player's trade value being significantly reduced by having an extremely hard to move contract. If the team that has him wants to move him, they've got to be prepared to come out on the losing end of the trade.

Easy enough to block though if they simply put in a stipulation that a team can only execute the regret clause on a contract they signed themselves or for a traded player that has been on the roster for X number of seasons.

I imagine some rules would exist similar to needing to be the team that signed the player...although then there's the idea of the player being traded and then going down the drain. So I dunno.

I don't think it's a big deal. The Islanders traded Trent Hunter to the Devils for Brian Rolston. Rolston had 1 year left at just over 5M. Hunter had 2 years at 2M per. The Devils bought Hunter out. So not only did they save money by dumping Rolston they saved even more by buying out Hunter. The Islanders got rid of 2 years of Hunter for 1 year of Rolston. Both teams ended up saving money when all was said & done.

This is perfect!

I think his eyes say it best.... im very curious to try to remember if the 2005 one was like this as twitter was not around then nor social media like it is today. this has been incredible frustrating as a fan with so many sources available and so much wrong and incorrect information and annoyance

I was actually wondering the same thing. The internet was a good source but it wasn't like the way twitter is.

I get sucked in to the same updates on twitter everyday and I am tired of it. I am sick of it all but also starting to get excited about a short schedule.

I am all messed up.

I'm excited for the first time since this whole thing began. I think there will be a 48 game season. All division and conference games. The guys on local sports talk were talking about it. 48 games..7 against the Flyers...7 against the Rags...7 against the Devils...etc...I'm in!

@SunGarrioch: …the tone of talks changed with disclaimer off the table as an option. Thus it is being brought back.
