I think the only way that Bettman will not be golden in the owners eyes is if fans stay away and revenues take a huge dive. That's all that matters, don't go to games, watch games on tv (free tv, no NHL Center Ice), and don't buy NHL merchandise. That's the only way to send a message.

Even if people did band together to boycott live games... They'd counter by lowering ticket prices or some shit and people would flock there like nothing ever happened. No willpower.

Would be awesome, but in cities that always sell out, the ones who can't get the tickets otherwise will snap them up.

In cities like mine, they will give tickets out with promotions and announce increased attendance.

I used to get tickets to Orioles games a few years ago whenever I filled up my tank.

Actually, since a large portion of tickets are bought by corporations in blocks anyway...

There is no way for the die hard fans to send a message. We don't matter.

A tweet from Daren Millard:

Contingency plan for @NHLPA I am told their working on an outdoor game in early january. Cdn location said to be spectacular setting.

:sly:

tweet is confusing though... if NHL is working on contingency plans, this would mean something.
NHLPA can't plan for sweet shit all until the lockout is lifted

Huh? The NHLPA can play a game whenever they want. They already had a charity game for Hurricane Sandy. As long as it doesn't have the NHL stamp on it, there's nothing to stop them.

Ahhh, I read it as a replacement for Winter Classic, and projected some official status on it.
Your way works too, of course. Bieksa's Buddies game sold out in about 30 minutes out here, so there is demand for another one like that.

I think it would be quite hilarious if after all the piss and vinegar that Bettman was spewing last week if they end up with a CBA that differs very little from what the NHLPA had proposed in their latest offer.

i was thinking about this as well Dash. I was also thinking what if its not radically different that the last CBA entirely. what if at the end the players still get the same % and find the loopholes. what if we went through this for nothing like the last lockout.

Let's hop on back the roller coaster folks...

Greg Wyshynski ‏@wyshynski
Hearing 2 other NHL teams have staff called back or on standby. That's 4 total. Again, could be precaution. S!&%'ll move fast after deal.

Nick Cotsonika ‏@cotsonika
Lots of signs individual teams, players gearing up. Hopeful? Just in case? Educated guessing? Know something?

Nick Cotsonika ‏@cotsonika
Question is if NHL or NHLPA smell weakness because people smell a deal and screw this up. I smell opportunity

meh, I don't know. these guys are supposed to be a brotherhood in the labour front. one vocal crack can hurt the group. If NHL can fine a dissenting owner $250,000, the players can 'remember' a dissenting voice as well.
add to that the nature of trash talking on the ice anyways, and Hammer has a target on his back.
... and I hope everyone plays the Bruins extra tough on behalf of their dickwad of an owner.
