I don't see the point of a 48 game Season.

The team that ends up winning the Cup is going to have an asterisk next to their name, and all the fans of the other 29 teams will never say that it truly means anything.

No one will really recognize that team as a "true" SC Winner.

Someone with more time and energy than me should look at the last 48 games of last season and see what a 46 game season does to the playoffs last year.

Pretty sure the Kings tore it up in the latter half of the season. Too lazy to look.

The Kings were on the outside of the playoffs looking in with two weeks to go last season (but Jeff is right, Dutter came on board and made a huge difference).

Yet every time the NHL wants to "semi startle" the hockey world with these obvious announcements, the entire media simply buys in.

Sportstalk ‏@DanRussellCKNW
The first time it should've been simply stated "all games are cancelled or postponed indefinitely". Its idiotic to think otherwise....

Sportstalk ‏@DanRussellCKNW
All these cancelled games by NHL is simply a charade that most pundits have bought into hook, line and sinker. (more)

I think we might be nearing the point in which the NHL loses more players to long-term deal in the KHL. Could you imagine the backfire on Bettman if Ovechkin and/or Malkin didn't come back?

I think the only way that Bettman will not be golden in the owners eyes is if fans stay away and revenues take a huge dive. That's all that matters, don't go to games, watch games on tv (free tv, no NHL Center Ice), and don't buy NHL merchandise. That's the only way to send a message.

Even if people did band together to boycott live games... They'd counter by lowering ticket prices or some shit and people would flock there like nothing ever happened. No willpower.

not a dan russell fan here ... sick of his rants

who is "startled"? the majoirty of the media is reporting what the NHL is doing ... Ill give him that some (Dreger) are mouthpieces for owners but the majority are just trying to do their job ... if you ask half the guys who are covering this "story", theyd rather be writing about actual games and are being forced to spit out the same regurgitated stories because networks have to fill time.

They cant do what Russell can do ... that is ... tape every segment for his late night "live" "call-in" radio show.

there is no way this happens though

if its a 5% price reduction for the rest of the year they can go fuck themselves!

Is that the same Dan Russell who does play-by-play for WHL games on Shaw? I don't like that guy.

The Phoenix Suns have a home game this week in which if the fans don't have a great experience they will be given a refund.

I think it's a great idea & hope it catches on, but doubt it.

moved over to the team1040 with his "longest running sports radio show in canadian history" ... treated people like shit while he was there ... i think he lasted a week ... went back to cknw ... they dont call that station the black tower for nothing

NHL and NHLPA trying to set meeting for Wednesday. Hear it could be overseen by federal mediator as union asked for last week. #NHL

A tweet from Daren Millard:

Contingency plan for @NHLPA I am told their working on an outdoor game in early january. Cdn location said to be spectacular setting.

Safe to say that rules out Edmonton (hehe)

Whistler/Blackcomb? Lake Louise?

To me a spectacular setting is a 5,000 seat all sheet metal barn that allows you to bring your own beer cans in - oh yeah, one that opens up the garage doors between periods to let the natural air in so you don't pass out from zamboni fumes.
