what does that do howeveR?

It allows individual players to file anti-trust suits against the NHL.

As pointed out by puck, both the NBPA and NFLPA decertified their unions and began the process of filing suits against their leagues. Shortly after both unions made this step, their leagues came to new CBA agreements.

I mentioned this strategy in this thread a few days ago. Glad to see the union is pursuing this. It will be sure to piss Bettman and his clan off.

This will make the owners unwilling to go forward with an entire season long lockout because they then guarantee themselves exploding court costs as the anti-trust suits reach courtrooms. Instead of them only losing money from gate revenue, etc.. they'll also be paying out to fight the players in a federal court.

DO IT NHLPA!!

Neuvirth backs Hammer:

"This lockout is not about majority of players, I think. It is about several superstars with big contracts."

Cracks are definitely forming within the NHLPA...

A year is a big chunk of a lesser paid player's career.

When you figure the average NHL career is five years, my math says that would be 20% of an average player's earnings.

i think you are 100% correct.

Ok it says that if the union decertifies the league may be force to take the players back but it says they wouldnt have cover the part under the cba agreement. So players would have to pay for their own medical, hotel rooms, meals, flights, ect. Also there would be no limit practices, fines or penalties and hundreds if other details.

That's miniscule next to the threat of antitrust lawsuits. The goal of decertifying wouldn't be to start playing again, it would be last-ditch attack by the players. This goes to the courts, and it takes years to resolve. Players would be free to go play elsewhere, maybe even another league would pop up, but owners would be bogged down in court.

It would be terrible for the league, of course. But IMO the owners started playing hardball first. If they don't feel like compromising, I have no problem with the players hitting back.

Things could be dicey in the Capitals dressing room...

"Those are two guys that have never been on a conference call, never been to a meeting, never paid attention," Brouwer told The Post. "People are going to have their own opinions but when you're fighting for something with 700 other guys, all you're doing is just making it harder to make a deal and making it harder to accomplish the things we're fighting for.

"For me, I think those guys selling us out, being selfish like that and making those comments..." Brouwer continued. "Me being on their team, how am I going to trust them as a teammate from now on? Because you know they're not going to support players in the big scheme of things when you go and you play on the team with them; it's going to be tough to want to back those guys from now on."

Report: Brouwer frustrated by Hamrlik, Neuvirth comments

not to generalize ... but i will ... ive come to 2 conclusions after hearing the 2 euro player comments and from what Matt Duchene said about playing on/with his euro teammates during the lockout

1. coming out of the lockout (whenever that may be), i think there will be a divide between the euro and north american nhl player

2. euro leagues will NEVER pull cdn and us star players to play over there no matter what they pay

"Duchene didn't do that either. You have to do your own job well before you criticize others"

I guess Duchene was referring to himself as one of the 5 that should have been sent to the minors?

yah could have been ... but DCMP (Dave Tomlinson) pretty much verified that the NHL'ers who are playing euro hockey for the first time are having a "welcome to the reality of hockey in europe" moment

said the euro hockey player basically sits back and lets his actions do the talking ... says "ok star NHL'er, you go do it .... by yourself"

/surprised they arent puffing cancer sticks at the bench and letting the nhl'er take a shift by himself

This kills me... just do your job. How about that.

I don't trust some of the people I've worked with... hasn't stopped me from doing my job.
