cracks... they are forming.

from Roman Jedlicka ‏@jedli

Are players still united? I dont think so. #Caps Roman Hamrlik for Daily Sport:

"I am disgusted. We have to push Fehr to the wall to get the deal. Time is against us. We lost 1/4 season, it is 425M $. Who will give it back to us? Mr. Fehr? There should be voting between player. Four questions - YES or NO - then count it. If half of players say lets play, then they should sign new CBA. If there is no season he should leave and we will find someone new. Time is our enemy."

Great interview. I wonder how they will react to Hammer.

Hmm... He's been in the league a long time. Hammer has made a lot of money over the years. Hopefully he didn't squander it.

I like Dutter's response to Hamrlik when his contract expired and he was looking for $5 million per season on a new contract with the Flames:

So, based on the following, how can a deal not be done?

Renaud Lavoie ‏@RenLavoieRDS

The good news, the war of numbers is over. The NHL and the NHLPA agreed that they are 182 million apart.

Renaud Lavoie ‏@RenLavoieRDS

The NHL wants more money concessions from the players and on players contracting.

Didn't the league say previously that they were a billion dollars apart? Now, they're only 182 million apart. I would characterize that as significant movement.

While NHL commissioner Gary Bettman was addressing the media in New York — a surprise, as it was believed NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly would be the man to speak on behalf of the league — he was confronted by an angry fan who bombarded him with combative questions.

Jaymes Hall, 41, a disgruntled Flyers fan from Lancaster, camouflaged himself with members of the media before unleashing on Bettman.

“Why not freeze the revenue generated from those sources that are still in dispute?” he screamed. “What about an escrow account or something so we can get back to playing? Let’s get back to playing! The fans are angry!”

“Excuse me one second,” Bettman said. “I’m in the middle of a media scrum. I’d be happy to talk to you when we’re done. You’re not credentialed media. I think it’s unfortunate and unfair to these people.”

Hall responded: “I’m a fan!”

Snapped Bettman: “I know you’re a fan. I’d be happy to talk with you.”

Bettman was good on his word. When he finished his 10-minute news conference, he walked directly toward Hall, and the two had a conversation that lasted a few minutes.

Hall then apologized to the commissioner.

I don't really believe he's a Philly fan considering he didn't throw a snowball and apologized.

On more than one occasion, Ryan insisted that he would not be playing in any other league except the NHL. he was quite adamant, telling the Orange County Register that ”I’m an NHL player,” and that I’m not going to take somebody else’s job overseas.” That was in early September, before the NHL Lockout became official.

Less than three weeks later, Ryan reiterated his point to the Courier Post, stating that ”I’m going to continue to skate with the guys … whether it’s coming back here [to South Jersey] for a couple weeks at a time. … I think it’s important to stay here [in the United States] and be part of the solution and not just run from it.”

I just saw the fan that had a brief discussion with Gary Bettman today - He was not a small man.

what does that do howeveR?

as I understand it, it allows the individual players to sue the owners for breaking the contracts.
I didn't follow closely, but I think NBA and NFL went down that path in their recent CBA fights, and each got a resolution pretty quickly afterwards

Which begs the question, why hasn't it already happened?

I think it's considered pretty last resort. If the owners think they're bluffing, call them, and they do decertify, I don't think the NHL would last very long.
