I imagine it is nearly impossible for a high end NFL player to be an olympic sprinter. I would think they need to carry more weight than the people they're running against. The last thing I would think their teams want to see is a trim, less muscle mass player coming into the season. .1 seconds faster means everything in the sprinting world, but nothing in the NFL world.

Tons of world class sprinters have played pro football. We have a few right now, Tyreek Hill being one of them.

Tyreke Hill was definitely fast, but he wasn't winning national championships in college. He chose football to his Olympic dream detriment. Perhaps I'm missing an NFL player that became a legit Olympic sprinter, but the amount of strength and muscle that the NFL puts on an athlete makes in near impossible, in my opinion, to compete with those whose goal isn't strength but speed. Again, .1 seconds in the Olympics can easily be the difference between participating in the Olympics and watching it. It means nothing in the NFL.

He was definitely legit, but his football career changed him from being a a threat to the fastest sprinters in the world. He was at a disadvantage when strength and speed are necessary for success.

I’m curious, how many Olympic sprinters have we had that were current NFL players over the past 30 years? I have no clue.
