If you play a tiebreaker because they happen to have the same record, even though the Dodgers have won 12 out of the 18 matchups with the Dodgers, you're essentially saying that not all 162 games count, because those 12 didn't, apparently.

That's absolutely false.

He said all 162 games count. Equally. What you're suggesting is that those specific 18 games should count more than the other 144.

No, what I'm suggesting is the 162 games count, but if there's a tie, the games that you've played against the team you've tied with should be the deciding factor. Doesn't mean they count more because you have to win as many of those 162 games as you can to even get to a tie situation. But it means that, in order to be the division title, you have to play well and beat the other teams in your division. Otherwise, you're telling me you would go 0-76 against your division, but as long as you have as good of a final record as someone else in your division, you are entitled to a division title.

Teams change over the course of a season. Braves/Phillies played 12 times in the First 1 1/2 months of the season and then didnt play again until the last 2 weeks was 2 completely different teams when we played at end of year. I would hate for a game played in April to cost my team when it comes playoff time.
Those games already do.

Because baseball is different from the other sports. The randomness factor of who wins is part of the beauty.

From your example, if the Braves won every game against the Nationals, that would mean they won 19 fewer games against the rest of their schedules. The braves record over 143 games would be 19 games worse. 19!!!
Who is the better team?
The one who beat the other one directly 19 times

Seeing as they are tied. It also means the other team is the best against the other 28 teams.

A tiebreaker would be fucking mental. Play a game and let the teams decide it.

.
Yes. They played 19

It means that MLB considers the whole season The idea is to have the best record for the entire season. Break a tie by playing not some made-up rule.
They played. 19 games. Not some rule where they are judged by common opponents or intra divisional this or that. They played each other . 19 times!

So. The 20th game is the one that counts.

Not necessarily in their division. Yankees could be 20-0 against the AL West or 18-2 against the NL East while the Red Sox went 0-20 against the NL Central or 2-18 against the AL Central.

That's true, but ultimately, if the two teams are tied, the Red Sox would have have to have gone 0-20 against opponents that the Yankees went 20-0 against.

BTW, 95-67=95-67 is perfectly logical

But not when it comes to the example I provided. Not to me. If the head to head is tied along with the final record, then yeah, play an extra game.
