you know they already do this rigtht? These players take out FAFSA bonds which is like 5-7k a year. Use that for entertainment...

Books, meals, board, all for free under their scholarship. PLUS they get one on one academic tutors.

You do realize that 5-7k isn't that much money even when most of your bills are paid for don't you? I don't have a problem with kids getting what would be the equivalent of a college kid's part time job, but having Barrett Jackson esque auctions on ESPN's national signing day coverage is a whole different level. That is professional sports. That is the NFL. College, in general, is humbling yourself and working your ass off to hopefully lead a successful and comfortable life later. Not drawing a doctor's salary or better from some random rich guy who wanted to go brag to his buddies about who he bought for his school.

The benefit here is not having the NCAA and all of their rules, some of which really inhibit players and coaches. IMO if they are going to be able to pay the players, they won't have to have dead periods during the year where the coach can't coach these kids.. The times like now when all of a sudden they are in trouble. Parents send the kids off to school and the coach says he will take care of them, but them the NCAA says "well, only when we allow it."

Notre Dame? BYU? Army and Navy?

After Utah and Boise St., are there any non-AQ schools left that should even be considered for inclusion? What about bottom feeders that are in conferences due to historical reasons but don't have the same budgets?

Because schools like Alabama, Texas, Oklahoma, Ohio State are rich enough in football money?

But what people don't understand is if you pay one sport you have to pay them all, women's included. Title X and such. No athletic department generates enough money to do that.

I dont know the Big12 as well as some. SO I may be wrong. But I wouldnt be surprised at all if Boise and Cincy are invited in to the conference. Both would be fantastic fits.

There is no way that college players will ever get paid for the reason you just mentioned. It is possible for a small increase in their stipend but nothing significant. Delaney has said multiple times that the B1G will never pay its' athletes and it will leave the NCAA immediately if forced to do so.

I'm so tired of hearing about how difficult college football players life is. You would think we are just riddled with homelessness, clothes less and malnutrition among athletes today.

Notre Dame would finally be forced to get into a conference.

I guess the simplest solution would be for the Big XII to increase from 10 to 14 members by adding Notre Dame, BYU, Boise State, and Cincinnati (West Virginia would no longer be on an island by themselves with the addition of Notre Dame & Cincinnati as travel partners, and Boise State & BYU would be western travel partners).

Proposed Big XII (Big XIV) divisions with the 4 new members in bold:

Big XIV North:

Boise State
BYU
Cincinnati
Iowa State
Kansas State
Notre Dame
West Virginia

Big XIV South:

Baylor
Kansas
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
TCU
Texas
Texas Tech

Let's get this thing done.

As an option...if the PAC wishes to increase to 14 schools too by getting into the Texas market, they could always consider adding SMU for the north Texas market and Rice or Houston for the south Texas market.

The new look PAC could be:

PAC North:

Cal
Oregon
Oregon State
Stanford
Utah
Washington
Washington State

PAC South:

Arizona
Arizona State
Colorado
Rice or Houston
SMU
UCLA
USC

You do realize that 5-7k is more take home than a college kid working 20 hours a week @ $10/hour right? Not to mention about on a par with what I have seen in proposals for 'paying' players....

You can still have only a four team playoff if the 5 power conferences break away to form a new division.

You would simply require that in order to be considered for one of the four playoff spots, you MUST win your conference. The five qualifying conference winners are then seeded 1 thru 5 with the top four getting the playoff spots (1 vs 4, and 2 vs 3 on New Years Day in the national semi-finals).....seed #5 will still get a consolation prize of being invited to the next best New Years Day Bowl with a pretty high payout.

This isn't necessarily true at all, you'd never have to pay everyone. Title IX says scholarship distribution has to be proportionate to the student population, but that a school doesn't have to spend equal amounts on sports and athletes, they just have to be providing the necessary funding for all sports.

JV, are you sure about this?

My knowledge of case law (little) indicates that it would be discriminating to pay men and not women. The distinction of "revenue-producing sport" would likely not be recognized by a federal court in a discrimination lawsuit.

Title IX isn't the only reason athletes won't be paid but it is a very good one.

Of course it is possible but highly unlikely that a new division would have five conferences and only four spots in a playoff. Not only because of the obvious but the powers that be would want "wild cards" so that their influence could assure that the "right" teams are in any playoff.

Inner, all my conversations with execs at ESPN and B1G says that this thing is headed for four 16-team super-conferences that could be further split into 8 if the appetite is ever there.

ND can't join any conf except the ACC until after 2027

There is a clause in their ACC affiliation that says they can't join a conference other than the ACC without penalty but with the dollars that are being thrown around, that penalty is irrelevant, if it is even enforceable. Thee ACC might not even exist in its' current form in a year.
