So then how can you call Cousins greedy if you don't even know the specifics of the situation?

b/c if it was a fair deal I believe he already would of signed a long term deal with us.

Dean, if 8 people bought the same item or were willing to buy the same item for $10, do you think its a fair deal for YOU to pay the same price for said item?? Cousins is GOING to get upwards of $60M in guaranteed money. The only question is, do we pay him and keep improving the team. Or do we let some one else pay him and go back into QB Purgatory and Hope we can luck into a better QB for less money?

I would pay the 60Mg. Im just responding to rumors of 90mg. We don't know the numbers yet or the offers for draft picks so we really cant say anything. Im not for letting KC go no matter what. Plus im not letting KC go just for a 3rd round pick either.

60M guaranteed over five years comes out to a cap charge of $12M a year.
90M Guaranteed over five years comes outto a cap charge of $18M a year.

Its all in how its structured Dean. BUt do you really think $6M a year against the cap is worth risking another RG3 trade, or another 3-5 years of well we cant really improve the defense because we are busy chasing the QB position again.

Fuck it why ask, I know you honest think any one could do what Cousins has done, even when its been shown to you time and again that if that were the case, teams wouldnt be throwing tons of resources at the position.

I don't know how contracts are worked out. I cant comment on it. If its that simple Shark why all the SportsHoopla?

Dean... you and a few others are the only people trying to use the contract number as a valid reason to not resign Cousins long term. It was a Bullshit excuse by the team last year, and will likely be the same bullshit they use this year if they dont retain him. If he plays under the tag he costs $24M this year. If he is signed to a long term deal even with $90M guaranteed, he probably counts $18-20M against the cap.

This is about egos and some one NOT feeling ok with Kirk as the face of the team, nothing more nothing less.

Its about talent level too. If he got us into the playoffs I think the front office wouldn't be having this conversation.

If he had gotten us into the playoffs and god forbid won a game, his contract demand speculation would START at $100M and go from there. And people would still be bitching he isnt worth it. And you can say he is being greedy. But he is being smart and realizes he is dealing with the one team that shows ZERO loyalty to their own, so why cut them a break now?

I disagree with that but if he won a playoff game you would not heard a peep from the media.

Dude 90% of the media is saying we should and NEED to resign Cousins long term. The only people saying we shouldnt are "fans" like you, a few numb skulls in the media who think along your lines that Cousins isnt worth the contract. And a few Skins haters who are HOPING the team screws this up.

Now the Media is speculating we might trade him, but thats a far cry from saying we SHOULD just deal him.

Wrong. You cant speculate b/c we don't know the facts. We don't know KC contracts demands. We don't know the draft picks being offered. So no one can say what to do about KC yet b/c not facts are being presented. Im just commenting on rumors.

Actually there are plenty of facts.

Fact.. .we know based on last year Cousins is NOT going to sign any deal without the tag being applied first because it puts him in a stronger negotiation position.

Fact.. we know his agent will start out at guaranteed money being the cost of this years tag number plus next years tag number combined and work his way up from there.

Fact...we know if Kirk signs the tender Washington can either sign him long term, or trade him for what ever they can get. Because once he signs the tender, Kirk would have to agree to the team he was being traded to, which kind of lowers his trade value alot.

Quite a few of the media people pushing stories about Cousins being traded or him wanting to leave DC are those looking to make a name for themselves (or outright haters like Florio and Reid). They know that if they put their name behind some type of controversy or new slant on the situation they will garner a spot on the ESPN Front page, the WP sports page, lead story on Pro Football Talk or airtime on ESPN, Fox, etc. In most cases they pull this info straight out of their ass.

Bullshit. First of all what is fair? Fair doesn't necessarily mean low bid or your idea of what Cousins is worth. Beyond that maybe he is just buying time to negotiate a little more money - nothing wrong w/ that. Do you understand the concept of negotiations & how in many cases things don't get settled until the last minute? It works this way in many cases & it not always indicative of greed - just common sense.

Fair is not the highest paid in the league b/c he doesn't deserve to be that guy. Simple as that.

So where in your grand talent evaluating skill set does he DESERVE to be?? Because last year we offered him 21st best paid QB in the league and you seem to think that was FAIR.

And he deserves to get every penny he can from this team because this team has shown a habit over the years of bending over backwards for other teams free agents, but trying to go super cheap on their own. And you can bet the rest of the locker room is watching to see how the Skins handle this. Because if they do what they normally do, and let Jackson and Garcon walk, eventually players are going to get the why bother mentality because the only people the Redskins are interested in paying come from other teams.

No last year was not fair. I don't blame KC at all for last year. This year is different.

You still don't get it. Again - the higher QB contracts each offseason are based on timing and supply & demand. Just because a particular QB gets the highest or one of the highest contracts does not mean that anyone is saying the he is the best QB in the NFL or even top 5. He is just one of the more valued available QBs at that time in a league where quality QB play is at a premium.

We have seen this with numerous other QBs in the recent past. Their is no "deserve" factor here. Any QB who is viewed as a quality starter & has good years left in him will warrant a very high contract. If his current team doesn't pay him (rare) he will make a lot of money elsewhere. Where exactly is the greed in that situation? Most normal human beings would react in the same manner in this situation. However - for some reason you view this as a flaw.
