Lowe really needs an "undisclosed" injury right now, a couple of "rehab" appearances in a couple weeks might do him a world of good. McCann is hitting mildly better and Getting the pitchers and JD back this week will be huge. I'm still holding out for a waiver trade this month to add a starter. If the boys can get to a wild card spot or within a game of the Tribe maybe AA will look for a viable piece. Either way, IF, Zimm and Norris come back strong and JD is JD, I think we will be in the race until the end of the season as we stand personnel wise.

CAPTAIN NEGATIVE to the rescue.......

A little perspective. Zimmermann had 3 quality starts in his last seven before missing a month. Daniel Norris has pitched a total of 13 so-so innings so far. (His minor league work has been erratic) JD Martinez's offense should help, but his defense will have Moya-moments.

Luckily for Misters Zimmermann and Norris, their performances will be gauged against those of Anibal Sanchez and the 1.72 WHIP of Mike Pelfrey.
:)

".... Tigers general manager Al Avila walked into a thinned out Detroit clubhouse and quietly explained why he decided to stand pat when the 4 p.m. Aug. 1 non-waiver trade deadline passed. It was the cost of doing business that kept Detroit off the market.

For major help, teams were asking Detroit for Michael Fulmer, Daniel Norris and Matt Boyd. Any major move the Tigers could have made, Avila said, 'would have set us back five years' in terms of player development.

Avila zeroed in on some of the pitching Tampa Bay offered, but was told up front 'you don't have enough' to offer. ...."

JD Martinez was a Gold Glove finalist in RF last year, thank you.

Area code? They aren't even in the same time zone.

Well...I was going by Fangraphs numbers who have him at a -14.0 dWAR. UZR/150 at -27.3.

Of the 23 MLB rightfielders with over 500 innings played, he is 22nd of 23. I know you guys won't buy that...just showing you what I was using as a reference. (Baseball Reference also has low defensive rating for him for 2016)

I wouldn't have commented on JD's defense, if it wasn't ranked so low. I know he is not being paid for his glove work, and I realized that he got notice for his improved defense last year. I am just assuming that he has slipped back to his previous defensive work, that was part of his problems in Houston. I notice that he has 5 errors this year - compared to 2 all of last year. He had 15 assists last year and so far only 1 this year.

While I still wouldn't mention him in the same sentence as Moya... when you're right, you're right. He's taken a major step backward this year.

2015: .993 fielding pct. (1st among AL RFs), 15 assists (2nd), 7.7 UZR (2nd)
2016: .959 fielding pct., 1 assist, UZR -27

I also noticed that 2015 was his only full season with a positive Defensive Runs Saved (DRS) rating, so maybe last season was the aberration. +4 DRS last year, -26 this year. Yikes! I knew he was botching a few more plays this season, but didn't realize how much of a difference it was.

LOL @ the combined 10-23 record and 5+ ERA for these two once-great pitchers.

I think it's all relative......You might have a season where you have line drives hit at you and another season where everything is a can of corn pop fly, wait a half hour for the ball to come down where you're sitting in your lawn chair chilling waiting for the ball to hit your mitt.

Only takes a few line drives a season to make you look bad or a million pop flies to make you look good.....Unless you watch every dang out stats often lie......

Miggy is a great player, but quite frankly I'm tired of his trotting to first base on anything hit in the infield......If its bobbled it could be a hit......I don't know how many times he would be safe if he actually legged one out. Just another stat I don't like.

Smitty this is for you.......I hated Ordonez!!!!!!!!! That butt slide drove me nuts......To many times a single turned into a triple because of his ass flop and people would excuse that because of his bat......

I'm done with my rant for today.

Let's see if Sanchez caught the fever of winning like the rest of the team on this 6 game winning streak and two series sweeps or does Howie need to takes his butt back to the U.P. because he jinxed the team by coming home during a streak.

A sample that is only April through mid-June can lie as well.

DETROIT — Exactly one month after being placed on the disabled list with a right neck strain, Jordan Zimmermann is back with the Detroit Tigers. As well is Daniel Norris, who has been sidelined with a strained right oblique since July 5, though the team sent him to Triple-A Toledo following his removal from the DL.

After Zimmermann threw a side bullpen session, the Tigers were comfortable with his recovery enough to reinstate him. The right-hander will start on Thursday in the final game against the White Sox.With Zimmermann and Norris off the disabled list, the only player the Tigers are waiting for is J.D. Martinez.

The team expecting him to return within the next few days and certainly before the homestand is out. Tuesday he updated that estimation to the end of the current series, which lands on Thursday, only two days from now.

Unless Nicky C has a health issue, no reason for Romine to start the game.......Don't care about rest, Cabreras fat ass don't get rest neither should Nicky.......Same goes for the outfield.......When Martinez comes back Aviles shouldn't see the field either.

Don't care about lefty vs righty, you never start Romine over Nicky C.......You can replace him later with a lead for defense but not start him........
