McCann is coming up big since those days off last week.

Five game hitting streak now and a five game RBI streak too.

If the Tigers get some better production from McCann then we saw the first 3 months and with JD coming back the lineup looks pretty good.

Jeremy Hellickson of the Phillies is still available. Sort of surprised. He is pitching (surprisingly) well and would only be a rental. I figure the Phils must be asking too much or he'd have been grabbed by now. Two month rental for a guy who could revert ''to form'' and be no better than a Pelfrey? I'm not giving up the bank to get him.

The name Wade Miley was mentioned as a possible target for the Tigers. Now I could see Avila drooling over this guy. An ERA just shy of 5.00 getting paid $6.1mil this year and $9.0 next year! Yeah.....mmmmmm

Tigers’ J.D. Martinez collects 2 hits in rehab appearance for Mud Hens

The Mud Hens scored three runs in the fourth, then added a three-spot on the Braves in the seventh to take an easy win over Gwinnett. Matt Crouse threw seven shutout innings for Toledo, allowing just two hits and three walks. J.D. Martinez doubled, stole a base, and scored a run, and Toledo’s 7-9 hitters had all five RBI. Dixon Machado reached base three times and drove in two. With the win, Crouse lowered his ERA to 2.78 on the season.

Martinez: 2-5, 2B, R, 2 SO, SB
Machado: 2-3, 2B, R, 2 RBI, BB
McGehee: 2-5, 2B, R
Crouse (W): 7.0 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 2 SO

I guess Avila couldn't pry the old checkbook open this time. Wade Miley got grabbed by the Orioles. Too bad, that $9mil contract for next year would've looked nice next to Mr. Pelfrey's $8mil. Of course Mr. Sanchez will make almost as much as the two put together at $16.8 next year.

C'mon Avila....pick up some warm body. Ya got about 20 hours left. Get someone, anyone. Prove that you actually are working. You can't tell me that you can't find a relief pitcher that might be a "tad" better than Mark Lowe? How about an outfielder that could handle the 4th OF spot better than the collection of AAA players you have now? Not asking for a Lucroy or Sale....nothing even close to that. How about a David Hernandez of the Phillies? or Joe Smith of the Angels? Maybe Brandon Barnes of the Rockies to play the OF? A new face...not a Toledo Bum of the Month!

I'm still thinking we could get Hector Santiago cheap.

Hope Atleast a vet reliever.

DETROIT -- Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Mike Pelfrey left Sunday's game after five scoreless innings because his back had tightened up, manager Brad Ausmus said.

Pelfrey had only thrown 82 pitches and would have come out to pitch the sixth if he had been healthy.

The Tigers have asked about starters like Jeremy Hellickson and Hector Santiago in trade talks
.With Lucroy still available after Sunday, Crasnick says “there’s a small chance” the Tigers jump back into the fray, “But they’re more focused on pitching.”We dove into this a bit more on Sunday, but Crasnick also reported that the Tigers “have discussed the usual suspects” when it comes to starting pitching. The names Crasnick dropped included Phillies righthander Jeremy Hellickson, Royals righty Edinson Volquez, Angels lefty Hector Santiago, and Rays swingman Erasmo Ramirez. Fox Sports’ Jon Morosi doubled down on the Hellickson and Santiago rumors. Crasnick also listed lefthander Wade Miley, but the 29-year-old southpaw was traded to the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday evening. One thing that may stop the Tigers from making a move is the high asking prices from other clubs. We saw the ridiculous (and rightful) demands that the New York Yankees wanted for lefty Andrew Miller, but ESPN’s Jayson Stark reported that just about everyone else is asking for either Matt Boyd, Daniel Norris, or both. Understandably, the Tigers have said no.

Interesting that Lucroy didn't want to go to Cleveland. ...

Rumor has it Lucroy wanted the option to pursue free agency at the end of this season, and Cleveland insisted on inheriting his Brewers contract (which has him signed through 2017).
