As was stated before the season started...with this pitching staff, the Tiger offense will need 5 or more runs to get a win in most games. This one looks like it might fall into that category.

5 hits and 1 walk today. So he wasn't all that bad coming in (4 hits, 2 walks in 4-2/3). But yeah, his inability to miss bats means he needs to induce a shitload of ground balls to be effective.

Fortunately, the Tigers have been getting a good number of add-on runs in the later innings this year. Let's hope that continues today.

LOL.... Lowe gets a break there. Jaso thrown out at home with 1 out and his team trailing by 4 runs. Bad baserunning or bad base coaching, or both.

Not impressed with Lowe so far this season. Justin Wilson looking like the best acquisition among the three big RP deals the Tigers made. I know it's still very early.

Well, the Tigers offense this year is doing its best to make OTHER teams' bullpens look bad, as well.

Without the add-on runs off the Pirates pen, this game is tied.

A lot of bad bullpens in baseball. I don't know what the solution is. But giving some of these guys 3-4 year deals at around $4-5 million a year, does not seem a bright idea.

Speaking of bad relief pitchers .... Bruce Rondon was helped off the field in Toledo yesterday after injuring his hamstring --- during pre-game warmups.

No, I'm not making that up.

The D'Backs are toying with the idea of turning Rubby De La Rosa into a 3 inning relief specialist. He throws hard, but really only has two pitches. As a starter he fails after two trips through the order. The question is, how often could he come out of the pen? Every other game, once a week? He pitched 4 innings (as a starter) last night and kept most of his fastballs over 95+ mph - BY DESIGN. The goal was to spend it all in 4-5 innings. I guess they will try it again. I kind of like the idea. Maybe get two or three of these guys in your pen to replace these one inning guys that seem to fail as much as they succeed
