I think Salty is history. Too many Ks and an awful BA. Detroit does not need to break the bank to find a back up catcher....plenty available who can provide decent defense and better offense than Salty, at a lower price.

Bring Avila Jr back on a minor league contract. :)
Who, other than Avila has expierience, bats left handed, is solid behind the plate and would come cheap?

Id have no issue with Avila being back, but there's no chance his Dad signs him.

His dad is the only reason he wasn't back this season.

Hopefully, finding some left handed bats for the bench won't be a big issue next year. As for defense....there are dozens of backup catchers who would equal Salty's defense. They just need to find one who has some OBP skills. Unless you are the best defensive catcher in baseball, a K rate at 35%, and a .179 BA, suggests you don't belong on a major league roster.

Batting average doesn't mean a great deal to me, if it's a guy who can hit for power, from a position where value comes defensively.

I don't see Salty bein out of baseball because of his crap BA anytime soon. He's a power threat, with a better OBP than Muzz' boy from the island. (Id take more power before better OBP from the 8 spot.)And McCann. But not the defensive guy that either of em are.

Woah! Don't bring me into this........I'd hire Harbaugh to play catcher, We know he has a arm and really how hard could it be to hit 200 if your Jim Harbaugh.

But he may be burning bridges in Detroit. After hitting .136 in August, he is 0 for September. Sorry....just no way I could rationalize offering a contract for that output. Even if he is a great ''clubhouse guy''.

He eats boogers. And lies about it.

That's a deal breaker.

And is a psychopath. I like Iggy a lot more than Jimbo Khaki Pants.

Maybe.

He's the only upcoming FA, I think. Positional wise. Unless Avila loses his mind and doesn't bring Maybin back.

Maybe Romine is. Idk.

PROBABLE STARTING PITCHERS
Detroit Tigers
RHP Anibal Sanchez (7-13, 5.69 ERA)

Minnesota Twins
RHP Tyler Duffey (8-11, 6.13 ERA)

In two previous starts against the Twins this season, Anibal Sanchez is 1-1 with a 4.15 ERA.

--Tyler Duffey has started twice against the Tigers this season, going 0-2 with a 6.75 ERA.

The loss to the Twins is not the end of the world if we take the next 2....
