Tigers rookie Michael Fulmer enters today's game on a scoreless streak of 22 1/3 innings. He hasn't allowed a run in his last three starts. For the season, he's averaging a fraction better than a strikeout per inning.

Yankees pitcher Michael Pineda has had a rough year, but he's been better lately. That includes a June 2 start against the Tigers where he gave up one run and struck out eight in 5 2/3 innings.

CHICAGO -- Victor Martinez can hit, but don't expect him to do much more for the time being.

Martinez underwent an MRI on his right knee here Monday morning, the same one he came up clutching after a hit Sunday in New York.

It showed no structural damage but heavy bruising, enough to be held out of the Detroit Tigers' lineup Monday for their series opener against the Chicago White Sox (8:10 p.m., FSD)

Avila Sr did not craft this fine bunch of benchwarmers just to look at. Aviles and Salty are in today....while their cohorts, Romine and McCann sit. Rumor has it that there was some nasty talk among the Bench Boys as Mike Aviles pushed his BA over .200. He was a tad upset to be fined in Kangaroo Court for that "mis-step". Be careful Mike....if you get that BA too high and Upton and Iglesias might get antsy.
