It's on Fox here. Smoltz said he's related to Charlie Gehringer. I never knew that. That's 7 in a row where JV's ERA is under 1 through 7 innings, I think.

Did Smoltz also say he didn't remember one of the Yankees coaches breing his catcher in the minors?

That seems weird to me. I get how you could forget someone, but not a battery mate.

Yeah. Rob Thompson. He said he caught Smoltz in practice I think. I guess they were both on the same team in the Tigers system at some point in the late 80s. A lot of guys probably caught Smoltz at least once.

It was 30 years ago, just seems odd to not remember a guy who was your catcher. I guess if it was just practice it's not so Strange. I missed that part.

I think the Indians are the Tigers' biggest worry obviously. Sox are fading and the Royals sadly seem to banged up. But the Indians have legit pitching and if they get anything from their lineup, are legit. Tigers need to get some consistent pitching. They cannot just rely on Fulmer and Verlander only.

Especially considering Fulmer is at 63 innings in 2016.

His career high was last year at 124 and a third.

He'll either need to be skipped a few times or spend a chunk coming out of the pen to avoid being shut down before the season ends. (I don't know what his limit is though tbh. 160?)

Couldn't be happier with Verlander this year though. He's looked like a legit Ace for the majority of the season. Hats off to him and all of you who didn't waiver.

160 seems like the ideal range. I really hope Fulmer keeps it up!
