kelly is not a mlb cf. he is too slow. management does see Garcia as a corner, however only because of AJ. Both Dirks and Garcia are better in center than Kelly.
I have a hard time buying any of that Adrian. You don't like Kelly as a hitter, I get that. But he is a much better centerfield option than anyone else available in this game. It's not even close actually. Garcia is too big. Dirks doesn't have the arm. Tui isn't going to play there. And Omar is at second. I don't get your anti-DK agenda. But have fun with it, he's not going to stop playing anytime soon.
Smyly is the closer in my head, because he's proven time and time again that he can get people out without loading the bases and rolling the roulette wheel on a 3-2 count with a junk 88 mph fastball.
Better option at the plate for sure. But I don't think he's the defensive player Kelly is. Not that I think Andy is bad or anything, but he's a left fielder for a reason. Can anyone name a centerfielder that outweighs Garcia? Ryan Streiby doesn't count, as he should never have been plopped in the outfield in the first place.
DK is probably the best option to fill in for Omar or Johnny, but I think Dirks could do just as good as a job as DK in CF....Granted he looks good on the corner.
I'll give ya a push at CF then it comes down to the plate and they both bat lefty and Dirks is a better hitter......So he should be the option in my mind.
yes they did. Miggy hit a grand slam. notice after the 3rd home run by the Tigers...Os pitcher hit a Tiger in the head??? there will be pay backs!!!!!!!
should have won game 1 of this series...valverde gave it away. should be going for the sweep!!!
iam a big Dirks fan..but he left like 9 men on base the other game oooouch!!!!
very Inge and Raburn like
well the tigers have gotten back fransisco martinez from the Martinez was the supposed center piece the M's got for Doug Fister. In the Tigers system martinez hit around 300 with 10 hr in AA in 2011 but has struggled for the mariners.
So the fister trade is now Chance Ruffin and charlie furbush plus whatever ptbnl the Tigers give the M's for martinez (probably not much since he was DFA). Not the greatest of trades.
on a side note Quintin berry is DFA as he was removed from the 40 man to make room for martinez. Doubtful anyone claims berry. so he may still elect to stay at Toledo.
Tigers are 30-24 and exactly one-third of the way through the season. On pace for 90 wins at the moment, which should be enough to win the ALC. I still don't think this team has played their best baseball yet. But then again with no closer, perhaps 90 wins is as much or more than we can expect. Were it not for a 6-1 record vs. the Astros, the Tigers would be 1 game over .500, but they are also done playing the AL West in their stadiums -- a good thing.
my guess is as there is more teams fall out of the WC race closers will become available . Tigers can win the division as the pen sits now, but not much in the playoffs. probably some of the glut of OF prospects will be the trade bait.
Never been a fan of ranking starting pitchers. (1-5) But I would have to say that it would be difficult to do on the Tigers staff. If you concede JV the #1, via past year's performances....where does that leave Porcello (considered #5 by many) who has out-pitched JV over the past few weeks?
Glad to see everything is back to "NORMAL" after yesterdays explosion. All I see Coke doing is pitching batting practice. Can't this guy ever put out the fire? Guess not.
Hey, Grilli looked good striking out the side for Pittsburgh. Isn't this guy from Royal Oak?
problem with this team in a nutshell, which we saw today.
1) bad pen
2) too many gidp
3) lack of fundamentals. Avila at bat with first and second no out and bunts into a DP in the seventh. JL still thinks he can get a team to slug to a WS title. by the way his WS title happened in 1997 in the heyday of the slugging steroid era. those days are long gone.
everyone on this team except Prince and miggy need to be able to bunt. this is the reason for the horrible one run/extra's record. Too much waiting on the extra base hit or hoping to string 3 straight singles together . in the seventh needed at least one run to score with first and second with no out and a 2-0 lead.
