If we were talking about Dirk's last 3 years I would agree that he was average... I'm just trying to state that in 2013 he was great in LF.. I think Trout is overrated defensively also tbh, but he is still very above average due to his speed alone.. Both player's arms are garbage however, that much I agree..

Speed really does seperate guys from the pack. I think Andy moves well, just not to the point where Id consider him a burner or anything.

What? Why would it matter that he once was a centerfielder? He's capable of being a centerfielder. Dirks isn't. Brantley is a better defensive player, they both play left.... He's a better leftfielder.

Brantley is suppose to be better being a former CFer(Due to range), but last year Dirks was actually better.. You have to remember I'm referring to 2013 and he actually was great in LF..

Look I'm not a Dirks lover or anything. I want the guy to be replaced and I think someone like Choo is 10 times better, but he played solid defense in 2013.. All I'm saying.. I know a lot of people don't like Dirks as a player but I think his one strength was clear.. And that isn't even all that important considering LF is a trivial position defensively..

The advantage to me in Choo long term would be that he could be moved to right when Hunter is gone. I know in the past Fangraphs and such hasn't been big on him, I am though. I think he's an honest to goodness 5 tool player. Still have no idea why Cleveland traded him for Stubbs. Stubbs is terrible. Choo/Kinsler-Kinsler/Choo would be tremendous in front of Miggy.

Why trade Porcello???????
His salary is low. very low. he is a 5th starter.
He gives us innings... and you would have to replace him. Most 5th starters are a lot worse.
He does a good job as a 5th starter. when play offs come. he will go and hide in the bull pen like all 5th starters. we could do a lot worse. a whole hellva lot worse.
not like we would get any thing for him. what would get??? a out fielder not good enough to play? a journey man bull pen arm???

Agree on Porcello. It would be foolish to upgrade the infield and then get rid of your ground ball pither for peanuts.

Rumor floating around Oakland is Cespedes for Scherzer. Two years and one year until FA respectively. I think it would take more for the Tigers to pull the trigger on that one.

Interesting how doug starts out by saying Porcello is too good to trade. That he is cheap (not really) and needs not to be traded. Then ends up his argument by saying he is worthless in a trade?????

It's OK doug. I love reading 'stream of consciousness' writing. Keep writing just the way you think.

Hearts are breaking a little on both sides of the deal, from what I am reading. Kinsler is a great ball player, it's just that we were jammed up the middle, someone had to be moved. We had a severe power outage that reared it's head last season.

I'm really going to miss Kinsler, I'm pretty convinced you guys will like him and I wish both teams the best in the trade.

I like Kinsler and think he is a top 10 second basemen, and I remember a few years back the talk about him being an MVP type player. But I also like Infante and thought he never really got the praise that he earned. He has been very under rated his entire career.

I hate to see the Tigers walk away from Infante but understand that the cash flexibility and Kinsler as a replacement makes total sense.

My fear right now is we go into 2014 and 3b becomes the second base of 2012. Looking for a replacement halfway through the season. I think Castellanos is better than Sizemore but he could end up as the left field guy.

I think trading Fielder was the best move the Tigers could do as Miggy is not a 3B but to think this doesn't create some issues is wishful thinking. I get Dave D is not finished and the Tigers will sign a closer and either a LF or 3B but who and how much to me is the key.

If they landed choo i wouldnt be opposed to miggy hitting cleanup with choo kinsler and hunter in front.

I believe Choo turned dow his qualifing offer and it would cost Detroit a 1st round pick to sign him. I don't think thats going to happen.

Their are some interesting names in FA that may sign short term deals. Chavez at 3B would be a good fit as long as a guy like Castellanos rotates with him.

Corey Hart would fit that athletic OF role that Comerica park demands.

Mclouth would be a good platoon guy with Dirks and provide more speed.

I would have like Nelson Cruz but he would cost Detroit draft picks.

Juan Uribe

Plus Dave D could find a trade partner for Porcello or Scherzer.

I would. Hunter needs to be dropped in the order. I would rather see Miggy hit with a man on and a man out rather than a man on and two out. This is assuming Miggy comes back healthy. If he is running like he did this past season, disregard, I agree with you that Miggy should hit cleanup but disagree that it should be Hunter in the 3.

If McLouth were brought in it wouldnt be to platoon with Dirks. It would be to take his spot, IMO. Both lefties at the dish. (We haven't drafted much in the first round since DD got here.)

I think with the Tigers close to the luxury tax that changes things. Getting young guys under team control will help keep Detroit under that luxury tax in the future.

I still like the idea of moving Scherzer if the right trade is presented. I don't think he matches last seasons numbers and it will cost Detroit a JV like contract to keep him. Getting a good young player and a few prospects would take the sting out of moving him. It would also allow the Tigers to make a play for Choo without worrying about losing prospects.

A rotation of JV, Sanchez, Fister, Porcello, and Smyly would still be pretty formidable.

What about bringing granderson back with nathan? I prefer choo and nathan but are the tigers looking to spend that much and still sign scherzer and a 3b?

Agreed, scherzers value is at an all time high. I would also be for trading him if the right deal came.

McLouth is from Muskegon, right? :)
