Tiger fans will take a wait and see ....

It took 7 years of Leyland BEFORE tiger fans turned on him... little Ronnie forgets that.
4 years of ALCS and no WS ring will do that to fans.

I don't care if Assmus is of the tribe of Jacob. we care about winning.

I don't think fans, in general, "turned" on Leyland. The playoffs are kind of a crapshoot. Just ask the Braves. If I am going to fault anyone for the failures in the postseason, I would look more at the front office than the coaching staff. When was the last time anyone won the WS without an above average bullpen? The excellence of the starting staff is negated by not having someone(s) that can finish off games.

I turned in him the day Inge got cut and he started Raburn at second. Should have been fired that night.

don't think brookens wanted it or was ready for it. nice guy. BUT.

many Acta would have bee a good pick. he didn't have much to work with in Cleveland. he made some smart moves.

Not everyone turned on JL. I think a number of fans will always have a scapegoat for the teams struggles, while another percentage of fans will actually have legitimate reasons why they think he manager is doing well or is not. I for one liked JL and felt like he was always the best option available. I didnt like every move he made and probably wont with the next manager either, but no manager is perfect. Yes the tigers have a slew of superstars, bu managing in baseball is pretty damn important as well. Anyhow I'm excited to see ausmus back as a manager.

Choo would be an amazing signing. DD still not too concerned about the bullpen it appears.

I'm not sure I agree with that. First, where does he play? Do you put him in his natural position RF, and move Hunter to LF? Second, his K/BB ratio was very good in '13 but that seems like a statistical aberration compared to previous seasons. Third, how does this affect AJ. He is obviously not an ideal lead-off hitter but where do you move him to? Seventh? I like Choo, I just don't think the $$$'s it takes to sign him will be worth it.

My, Choo would look good leading off.... .423 OBP last season (.285 BA, 112 walks), .389 career OBP. Drop A-jax down to 7th-8th, where his doubles and 15 HR power can offset his K-rate. That said, it looks like Choo's agent is seeking 6 years and $100-$120 million. Seems very steep to me, especially for a team with the Tigers' current salaries.

Closer still a question mark if Rondon's improvement was a fluke. But first, I'd make a run at two good situational lefties who are on the market: Javier Lopez or Boone Logan. Even if Smyly returns to the pen, we need more LHP bullpen help.

IMO, there isn't anything easier to replace than middle relief. Failed starters, youngsters and somebody else's middle relievers are all available, all the time. Solid, quality back end of the bullpen isn't as easy, but it's still not like trying to find a top end starter. (We're not in that boat). I'd like to see Benoit return, as he's shown he can close and has done very well as the setup man. But another trusted arm needs to be brought in that can close. Weather they are given that role or not isn't my concern. And like you said, lefties. (Other than Smyly there wasn't one who appeared for Detroit last year that I'd like to see again. )

Lopez or Logan will not come cheaply. Lopez is looking for a three year deal at around $18mil and Logan is probably just below that. Both have had several good years in a row. Getting one of those two would be great, but a lefty specialist might be on the back burner until DD and Illitch decide where to put their spending money this winter. Choo?, Ellsbury?, a trade that brings in a big salary?, do they trade Scherzer? Those questions need to be answered first and then, depending on how things fall out....you decide what you've got left to get bullpen help. As someone said above, it isn't that hard to restock a bullpen....answer the bigger questions first.

yes you are correct legendary Lloyd is the next manager of the M's. Kind of a shock they would break the string of young managers and go with a more traditional guy. M's were last in hitting in the AL maybe they feel a hitting coach is the answer. They are clearly behind the A's, Rangers and Angels in the west however.
