Willis signs to 3-year extension worth $29 million with Tigers - MLB - ESPN
He was not a free agent until 2009... The deal he got bought out his arbitration yr and took him to free agent in 2011

Willis signs to 3-year extension worth $29 million with Tigers - MLB - ESPN

Read the story. Willis signed the contract two weeks after the trade was made after being out of the country. I will assume (BUT I DO NOT KNOW) that the trade was conditional on Willis passsing his physical and signing the contract. SIGN AND TRADE.

Lol... Seriously... He was not a free agent... He had a year to go on his contract... Its not a sign and trade... Its a trade and extend... If they didnt sign him to an extension... They still had him for a year... Do you really think the trade would have been blown up if willis didnt sign an extension? That trade was about miggy for the tigers and unloading salary for the marlins...

I don't see how you can call this a sign and trade... Maybe i am wrong here... But if a guy has a year left on his contract... I don't call that a sign and trade... But i doubt you will agree to disagree here

He had a year to go but signed an extension, POSSIBLY before the trade became official. I do not know for 100% if the Tigers would have done the trade but I do know for 100% that the extension was agreed to in principle before the trade became official. You are arguing semantics. You have said so many things that are wrong you try to direct attention away from it.

Read your post... You say he was possibly signed before... Then say you know 100%... You don't know 100%... Either way... Its not a sign and trade... You are arguing for the sake of arguing at this point. If you honestly think the tigers would have pulled the plug over not extending willis and lose out on miggy... You seriously must have bumped your head... Its a dumb topic... Because its NOT a sign and trade and Miggy was the main part of the deal and they would have done the deal without the Willis part if they had too... There was actually an entire foxsports documentary on the miggy trade... Willis was a late add to the trade because the marlins wanted to dump more salary.

Where does it say anywhere he was out of the country for two weeks... All i see is this

Agent Matt Sosnick said Tigers president and CEO David Dombrowski and vice president John Westhoff helped bring the deal to completion quickly. The negotiations spanned about four days.

Nothing in that article supports your argument in fact it actually poo poos it....

Willis was on vacation when he heard the news.

Sounds to me like the trade was made and it had nothing to do with willis signing an extension. I am sure you will try... But nothing supports your argument bro... I am done with this.

Ok... He was on vacation... Cool... Note how it says he found out about the trade while there... Which pretty much craps your original argument of it being a sign and trade... Because he was not negotiating before they announced the trade... Can we end this or are you going to keep trying to prove a failed argument. It wasn't a sign and trade.

There is no such thing as a sign and trade in mlb

This is the debate we were having. Read my posts. I never stated that I knew the trade in question was positively a sign and trade. If you really want to continue this I will show you a hundred instances of sign and trades in MLB.

OR

We can admit you won an argument against yourself but failed on the main point.

AND

Get back to discussing the topic of the thread, 2013 Tiger Baseball

Does this look like you were arguing the willis trade being a sign and trade? I guess you forgot... Because you were proved wrong on what you claimed... How bout we agree to drop it... I don't feel like having you keep trying to find any detail you can to make yourself feel like you didn't lose your arguement.

What is the last step of finalizing any trade in any sport? A physical. If you don't think the idea of an extension was brought up, you are more obtuse than I can comprehend.

What does a physical have to do with an extension? If the extension is being talked at that point... Its not a sign and trade.. You have to be trolling...

is J peralta coming back going to be awkward?
He knows he will not be the starting SS. He is willing to do what ever th club asks of him.

I think he has a chance to help this Tiger team to a ring. He knows he will be gone next year.
Who else we got coming off the bench to PH? 2E seems to have cooled off.
