Broncos DE DeMarcus Walker draws praise from teammates and coaches

A big key for the Broncos on defense is to establish an interior pass rush - and DeMarcus Walker is a big key for that - great to see Walker's approach to success and the game of football so tuned in. Walker had a lost season last year - I think we are headed for a breakout season for him in pro football this year.

Glad to see him doing well. Hated watching what the team did to him last year of trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. He was definitely not my favorite draft pick but hoping he can turn into a weapon on the inside in pass rushing situations. If he can do that plus then the addition of Bradley Chubb well all of a sudden the Broncos could have one of the more formidable pass rushes in the league.

Need him to rebound.. I stuck up for him after we drafted him when Nick disliked the pick.

He's up to almost 280 pounds already and I expect him to play more on the interior. Should be an impact player on the D-Line.

All the Broncos need is one guy from the interior putting pressure on collapsing the pocket and every offense in the league will crumble to the might Bronco's defense.

We should have a purty good rotation of DE's going.

Yes - that's what I am thinking and Peko is the anchor.

Peko is great, but it's like night and day when he's off the field. I hope we have someone coming up behind him. This would be a good year to limit his reps if we can.

Peko never gave up last year when we were losing. He produced all year and is a great leader. Love the fire and passion he plays with no matter how many points he is behind he never gives up. A great role model for the young guys to mold their work ethic after.

Yeah- I agree with this comment. Who cares about him.

Once I have clarity as to whether it was an offer or statement, I will make my judgement.

The 2015 defense honestly was set up just perfect. Edge rush talent/depth all around plus we had two interior guys in Wolfe and Jackson that were 3-down type players. They could get pressure but also be huge stalwarts in stopping the run. This is my one issue for this year is we don't really have that 3-down player unless Wolfe has tapped into the fountain of youth and his neck is actually fully healed. Gotsis has that kind of potential but still is showing a lack of understanding about the game. Walker I think could be a nice interior pass rusher but if he is asked to play 3 downs then the run defense will struggle. Peko is obviously huge in seeing our run defense return to glory but he doesn't offer anything pass rush wise. To me Gotsis is the one that absolutely needs to take that next step because he offers the ability to stay on the field for all 3 downs making it impossible for the good QB's to catch the Broncos in a bad personnel grouping.

Did Gotsis get better at staying on his feet last year?

He was definitely better. His issue is he doesn't have great technique with his hands to win in the pass game and can struggle to disengage in the run game as well. If someone teaches that kid how to use his hands properly he could become a pretty decent player for the Broncos.

Gotsis did well the first half of the year. Vanished the second half. Need a consistent year from him before I am ready to really believe in him. He did show signs last year early on though. Reminds me a bit of Wolfe's first two years.

LOL - there were some games last year when I'd swear the defense was out there for 3/4 of the game - that will make anyone feel wore down. No wonder the D got snippy.

Yeah, I see the performance of the Broncos defense to be broken down into these categories (highest priority to lowest):
  1. The offense provides sustained drives consistently that keeps the defense fresh
  2. Roby's ability to successfully replace Aqib Talib
  3. Joe Woods improvement from year one to year two as D coordinator
  4. Chubb's impact on the D-line
  5. Wolfe's health
  6. Development of players like Gotsis, Walker, Jewel, etc.
  7. Positive addition to defense from FA additions Cravens and Brock

Ware should be able to teach Gotsis how to be better at hand fighting if he is willing to listen and learn.

Shelby Harris is another nice piece to the DLine. I didn't watch a lot of the games last year but he seemed to get better as the year progressed.
