Deacon Jones passes away

This hurts me. Even though I was not around during his playing days, I've heard great things about him for many of you who watched him play. This is a sad day for a Rams fan and a sad day for the NFL.

Oh wow, very, very sorry to hear this. One of the absolute best ever and probably had the perfect mentality that every defensive player covets. He was one of the most aggressive, feared players ever. Deacon Jones is one of the few you can mention in the same sentence with Lawrence Taylor. A bad, bad dude on the field.

When I first became a ram's fan back in the late 90's (Tony Banks era on the cusp of the GSOT) I made it my due dilligence to research the team history. One of the main reasons why I chose to follow the team was because of its storied history of the great ram teams anchored by the defense. Deacon was one of my favorite players striking fear in QB's and opposing lineman. He made me proud to be a ram, and he will be missed RIP.

I know it truly is a sad day for Pro Football fans of every team however IMO such a life should be a celebration of sorts and the memories ARE found in those unique aspects we see everyday and endeared so much about the man and the player.

I would love to have this placed in the HOF however I have simply modified a version for our own Deacon Jones from the famous poem "Do Not Stand at My Grave and Weep" by Mary Elizabeth Frye.

Not sure how that would be viewed or received in light of it's origin.

Thanks Jermaine, I really wanted to do something more then just state the way I feel about his life and passing. Something that embodied the hearts and sentiments of us all as he meant so much to us and myself in particular as a small boy and brought so much joy to all of us throughout his lifetime in both his playing years and beyond!
