I have to say that I was wrong in wanting Reggie Smith to take over at fs, Goldson has been in his 09-10 form. He has looked like a probowl fs this season. I hope he's not just playing inspired ball because of what happened this offseason. He's doing a great job instilling fear into wr's this year, as well as making plays.
Imac, you were right about him being our best fs. As a matter of fact, he's looking like one of the best in the NFL.

Dashon Goldson kind of has that Kerry Rhodes personality, where he'll play good if he has something to prove, but if you outright give him the job he'll become too lax.

I disagree, he's a big hitter but has to many mental lapses in coverage. Reggie has some lapses too, but I think he's a better pure coverage FS than Goldson, and I like his ball skills better.

Yeah, Smith does seem to be around the ball constantly, however, Goldson seems to give you the complete package. I haven't really seen any mental lapses from him this season. Last season he looked terrible. This season I've seen a fs that you have to plan around if your the opposing oc.

How have the niners been using their safeties? Interchangeable or with Whitner in the box? Usually i pay attention to that stuff, but i've only caught a couple games this year, mostly streaming on the internet (= horrible quality)

If the answer is interchanging them, then i don't see why Smith and Goldson couldn't both start. They've impressed me more than Whitner.

Whitner has only looked bad on that overtime play against Dallas. Whitner mostly plays in the box, with the fs roaming. I really like Whitner and wouldn't want him to go anywhere. Some of the stuff he does won't show up in the stat book (like being the vocal defensive leader).

Goldson is bringing the wood. Looks like we are scheming him right. He's basically playing like an additional LB or SS. I haven't seen anything from him yet to show me he's coverage capable at FS.

I had to look at the stats because I didn't notice him at all. I thought he didn't even play! He had 4 solos.
