The whole “when AU wins 9+ games” thing underscores that it happens in a minority of years. In Saban’s tenure, AU is 99-57. That includes outliers of 14-0 and 3-9. Either way, they essentially are an 8-win team on average (with a median of 8 wins as well).

For comparison, they were 85-40 in 10 seasons under Tuberville, 49-20-1 in 6 seasons under Bowden/Oliver, and 99-39-4 in 12 years under Dye. Each of those averaged 8 wins/year. (I will spare Barfield’s miserable numbers.)

Granted 8 wins/year meant something WAY different in Dye’s day. But 8 wins/year has been a pretty consistent average for AU going back 50 years. Not sure why some think more is a reasonable expectation just because they occasionally catch lightning in a bottle.

We've done fine in the toughest division in football. Plus in 1993 we were undefeated and one should be added to Auburn and one taken from Alabama. Nick's run has been incredible but Auburn has done fine for the majority of the time since 1992 and we had a great run in the 80's winning/tie the SEC 4 times to Bama's 2 times (Georgia had 3 wins).
