On the show, Slater revealed that Prescott and his representatives are looking for Prescott’s new long-term contract to come in right behind Patrick Mahomes. Her source with the team indicated that Prescott and his representatives are looking for a “respectable offer.

Well which is it, because a deal right behind Mahomes wouldn't be a respectable deal for Dak
I suspect this is mostly BS so I won't go looking at those QB scouting reports just yet...
Or... is it this?

With the deadline for the Cowboys to place the franchise tag on quarterback Dak Prescott a week away, multiple sources said Tuesday night talks for a new contract are progressing. One source characterized discussions as “more productive than they have been” in previous months.

The Cowboys have until Tuesday to place the franchise tag on Prescott, which would net him a 2021 salary of $37.7 million.

If the Cowboys don’t place the franchise tag on Prescott, he becomes a free agent on March 17 and that could lead to a massive bidding war for quarterback-hungry teams...

I find it interesting there has been no news of any contract restructures. These would have to happen soon if the Cowboys and Dak cant agree.

Which qb could be there at 10? There could be 5 taken in top 10. Trey Lance and Mac Jones possibly could be there. It would be a huge gamble

I think they have until March 17th to be under the cap - first they need to officially finalize the cap. I'm sure they have reached out to agents of the players that they are thinking of restructuring to feel them out but I think these things are pretty standard now and happen very quickly and may not be announced until they actually do it. If Dak is signed it will be with a low year 1 cap hit and they may not need to do too much. Hopefully it includes cutting some players that aren't worth their cap hit

Where did they get that $15M starting point?

I guess if their premise was they could get him down to a $20M cap number for this year and use the real current cap number no one would read the article :noidea:
I don't know, ask the writer. I'm not attempting to get that far down into the weeds of any restructures.

It was rhetorical...and the writer didn't post it here so I can't quote him/her... :thumb:

whatever is going to happen better happen soon. even if they franchise him they are going to have make moves that clear 15-20M just to do it and the draft and not re-sign any of our free agents or any other FA's

Restructures can all happen in a couple of days. I wouldn't worry about it. Other than cutting the punter and maybe the FB I'm not sure we are going to see anything too exciting on that front.

If we sign him before we need to get under the cap later this month we won't need to do too much in the way of restructures. If it's the tag...then that's a little different. Although if he doesn't sign the tag I don't think it counts against the cap, right? I'm too lazy to check. Someone help a brother out...

Okay if they franchise tag him and he doesn’t sign then he would be ineligible to play in 2021

It's going to take Martin & DLaw

I'd consider Cooper, & Collins along with cutting the punter to get money to add what surely will be a large amount of quality free agents
That punter one of the more overpaid players on the roster. The guy never impressed me and he flat out was terrible in every playoff game he suited up in. Good riddance to him

I would do the non-exclusive tag. Let him talk to other teams and see what they offer him and then match the offer or take the 2 1st round picks. Either way the team still doesn’t appear to be challenges to any of the elite teams

It could happen. If it does happen then it means the Cowboys are done negotiating. People can lay the blame on the Cowboys, but it takes both sides. So far neither side seems to be budging. I think the non- exclusive tag is very possible. Dak is a known commodity. A team that has Cap space and is desperate for a qb will over pay for Dak. The Cowboys would then get two first round picks I just got a feeling that the Jones's dont like dealing with France. If Dak wants to be a Cowboy he has got to intervene.

Last offseason several of Frances clients were franchised tagged. None of them have been extended. I think the loss of revenue do to covid could be part of the reason or maybe the owners just dont like dealing with this agent.

Wish I could copy/paste from the Morning News app... they had a pretty good and more granular breakdown of how and where they can make money appear. Pretty much started with DLaw and converting around $16M of his salary to bonus and cutting Jones to save around $2M.

You may be able to access this plain text link though...

Dak Prescott has the Cowboys by the balls with your cap situation even if you place the tag on him he doesn't have to sign it and can wait the Cowboys out with 37 million counted against the cap all the while they have no leverage on who to trade him to if they decide to tag him which is looking unlikely
