I think the cowboys think they are fine with 1 for 31.5M with a possible 2nd year at 37M moreso than 4 years at an average of 35M. Dak needs to understand this and sign the 5 year deal. I know I'm changing my opinion on this situation cause it's somewhat common sense based on the state of sports at this time. IMO, I think it would be smart if Dak changed his mind too.
this is what I always thought.
Figured he would have a 35 mil avg. long term contract or it costs 68 or 69 mil for two years of tags. (vs. 70 mil on avg)
Only issue to me is by the 2nd tag we are moving onto another QB in the 3rd year.
That would be two more years Dak has to risk injury before cashing in. He is very durable but shit happens.
Not sure what his agent is saying to him. but the way I see it. He isnt going anywhere for the next 2 years no matter what.
If he plays on a tag to get his 4 year contract. That would still be 5 years to the Cowboys & actually cheaper.
Not understanding Dak & the agents thought process either.

The only thing I can think of is Dak has spoken to Bryant & Elliott and both said jerry will cave in the 11th hour. I think this is a different situation now that covid19 has raised it's ugly head, and Jerry may hold firm since it's a discount this season at 31.5.

Don't get me wrong, I also think Jerry has made this situation harder by holding a firm line with his franchise QB knowing his history of giving his star players what they wanted. It's becoming a bad situation by the day IMO. I think Dak wants to remain a Cowboy but if he's getting pissed at Jerry, anything is possible. I think this could have all been avoided if both sides had their shit together.

I am all for getting what you can but it is getting ridiculous. Longer it gets delayed at this point, animosity going to happen between parties.

Yep.

Reason number one I was against paying zeke. Love the guy but no way I would have caved in to that bullshit. JJ did and his is reaping one of the repercussions of that decision.

I think the difference between Zeke and Dak's situation is Andy Dalton. If the Cowboys had added, say, Adrian Peterson, they would have been able to let Zeke sit and spin

Invoking Jerry's "Never let your money get mad" saying here. Dak would be wise to heed that little bon mot.

I'm starting to think Dak's agent may not have his best interest in Dak. I heard a couple guys talking about this on local sports radio. They mentioned there will be a very good chance the cap goes down next season and perhaps in 2022 should covid19 take out this season or make teams play with no fans. The radio guys said it seems to them in light of this possibility, it would be wise to call the Cowboys and take their latest offer instead of grinding this out any longer. This seems plausible to me
I'm not exactly sure how that works. That may be a tough one to project. It could also be that Dak and his agent are banking on a higher salary cap due to an expected 17 game season and the fact that the cap normally goes up every year. It's not clear at this point if the extra game(s) is expected to begin in 2021 or later but from all accounts they are pushing for next year and that will push the cap even higher. I think in order to have a COVID-19 negative impact on the salary cap the tv contracts would need to be opened up and renegotiated downwards unless there is a force majeure clause that covers a cancelled or shortened season. It's an interesting topic. I think cap isn't related to stadium revenue, just tv contracts. My thinking is that ratings will be higher than ever once games begin because of people being home more often and starved for sports after all of the other leagues cancelling and also perhaps the extra one million fans at home each week if they can't go to the stadium to watch in person, which could push tv contracts even higher.

The longer this goes on the worse it will get. Jerry has the money so pay the man.

I'm sure Dak isn't happy about the Dalton signing.

I have said this before but I will say it again. You can’t pay everybody and while Jerry has caved on some contracts in the past ala Dez and Zeke and he may well cave on this one. But I’m not so sure Stephen looks to be driving the bus on this on with what he has said lately.
I like Dak and think he is a really good QB but he is not in the upper elite level IMHO. He has been offered to become the highest paid QB in NFL history per what I have read and yet he is not signing. Me I let him ride the tag and tag him next year and draft a QB try and trad him and move on if you can’t.
For all the back and forth it comes down to this simple fact. Dak will make more money long term as a Cowboys QB at The contract offered than he will at say 43 million in 2 years at Tampa for example with all the off field endorsements and business deals he can get.
I will close with
Just ask Roger, Chuck Howley, Bob Lilly, Tony, Troy,Mike, hell even Jay Novachek about that.

I don't agree and I also see a huge difference in NFL RB Vs NFL QB

I can't say for sure but I did find the following:

The cap is determined by taking the NFL's total revenues and allocating 47 percent to 48 percent of them towards the players' salaries and less a 1.5 percent stadium credit. This number is determined each year and adjusted based off of the revenues of the league.
