Around 30-33Mil I believe.

I did some Googling on articles from 2 years ago. An article said (and I do remember this part) that Dak rejected $30M/year. The article also said (and this is the part that I don't remember) that Dak was asking for $40M/year. Maybe two years ago, Dak would've settled for something in between, like $35M/year, and maybe less guaranteed than the $126M the Cowboys guaranteed today.

Yep.

You can’t argue against giving up the highest paid contract to a player you are not ever going to be willing to lose. Waiting and trying to negotiate that contract down will just cost you tens of millions like it did here.

2 years ago giving Dak a 5 year extension work $191 million would have been laughable. But that is exactly what they ended up doing.
Please explain the $191 million. It’s $157 million for 5 guaranteed with $126 in this contract and 31 last year. They overpaid for sure but it’s not $191 it could be with incentives I think but it’s not fully guaranteed Like Cousins

What was the deal going to be if it were done 2 years ago?

2 years ago Wilson signed a 4 year $140M. Dak easily would have accepted the same deal. It now has essentially turned 5 year $191M contract.

But the Cowboys had to get him to sign this deal.

What is hilarious is the timing (him coming off an injury).

But at this point it just falls into the category it is what it is.

This contract is 4 years $160M. Last year is $31M. Thus 2 years ago they could have offered him anything under 5 year $191M and saved money over what they ended up paying him.

I still like how people think guaranteed money means anything. Especially in a QB’s contract. Who cares what is guaranteed in this contract. It’s not like Dak is ever going to be cut. That is the only time it actually means anything. And average to good QB’s never get cut.

Hell even if Dak regresses, he isn’t going to be cut because in 3 years down the road from now $45M a year for an average QB is going to look like a solid deal.

The guaranteed money means everything the rest could just be padding or fluff or incentives easily or never reached. Average QB get cut all the time Winston ,Mariota, Dalton, Darnold and Tribiskys about to be if they are not traded for pennys on the dollar. are just a few of the right now QB’s all could be rated as average.

Not arguing just sayin even if it’s 191 for 5 years it’s 38.2 average

Congrats to both sides. I didn't think a 2nd tag at $38M was the way to go. I have to agree with earlier comments in this thread. If the Cowboys were prepared to pay him $31M last year and $160M/4 years now, (with Prescott injured and in a down market), then signing him long-term last year would have been the better move. I would have liked to find out what Prescott was worth as a FA. My guess is he was worth more to the Cowboys than other teams, but just a guess.

No not every Cowboys fan but a lot and if you want to get technical it’s 38.2 over the last five if he hits all the incentives in the contract. In the current deal it’s $126 guaranteed that’s 31.5 guaranteed so that’s not 40 either. They paid 2 much but it’s done. Hopefully he ends up better than Wentz or Goff who got paid earlier than Dak.
so we shall see.

Darnold should not be in that group, at least not until he gets out of the Jets abyss and proves he's as inept as the rest of the group.

Pretty sure his agent dragged this out as long as possible because the longer it took, the more they would make.

He was going to get his 40mil either with the Cowboys or some other team. Best to lock him up now.
