Carolina Panthers: claim to fame = making an NFC title game in year two and then failing to win a superbowl a decade ago

I was actually in attendance at their first ever win as a franchise. In Death Valley in Clemson. Beat the Jets, and Sam Mills had a pick-6.

We couldn't get a beer until the gates opened, because it was a dry county, but the NFL had worked some kind of deal to have that waived in the actual stadium.

Pats are screwed with a ton of injuries already. Damn shame

they had to get someone if they knew Welker wasn't coming back

had to take a chance

It wasn't just a dry county, the whole damn STATE wouldn't let you buy beer on Sunday, anywhere. I don't know if they've ever changed that or not, I hardly ever go back to SC...but I remember working at Death Valley for a Stones concert in 89, which was also on a Sunday, and having all these out of state types coming to the concession stand asking for beer. It was perfectly normal to us who had been raised in-state, but the looks on the faces of some of those patrons..."You mean I'm as fucked up as I'm going to get???"

"Yes sir...consider yourself lucky you've got that pot you're blowing in my face..."

Well up to 18 months ago you couldn't buy alcohol in GA on sunday. Now you can between noon and 6pm, per county....and there's still plenty of dry counties on sunday

Noon, I get. New York did that for a while, too, but then Bloomberg realized he was cheating the city out of valuable sales tax revenue, or something.

But the whole day??? It was pointless, because everyone just went out on Friday or Saturday and made sure their fridge was stocked up at home. It's not like it helped prevent any drankin, all it did was hurt the restaurants and bars who basically lost a whole day's worth of income, and on a weekend, to boot.

I ain't NEVER moving back.

My grandmother lived in Mauldin, SC and on sundays back in the 80s and 90s, that whole town would shut down...nothin' would be open.

Hu, Why on Earth would you ever want to leave SC?

It was mainly to get away from Georgians.

Since I'm on such a loser roll today, allow me to share all the famous South Carolinians from the colonial period to the present:

The Eight Lords Proprietor - Fat, bald English dandies who got fatter and richer off the colony, none of them ever set foot on the continent yet all the coastal counties bear their names.
Slave owners - undefeated for nearly 200 years
Francis Marion - "Swamp Fox" is heralded for harrassing the British during the revolution, but today he would be considered a wingnut guerrila terrorist militia enthusiast tea party supporter
Andrew Jackson - Hero of the War of 1812 for winning a battle that took place two weeks after the war had officially ended. Ol' Hickory went on to become the 7th US president, but his actual birthplace has been disputed between the Carolinas for centuries
Whichever guy decided it would be a good idea to succeed from the Union - Sure he had help, but still...
Strom Thurmond - Nuf Ced.
James Brown - The Godfather of Soul also spent time in state prison for domestic violence and resisting arrest.
Susan Smith - The lady who drowned her two children by driving her car into a lake and then claiming she was carjacked by a black man
Mark Sanford - Former Governor left office in disgrace after it was revealed that he was having an affair on the taxpayer's dime. Recently elected to a congressional seat because he's a republican...SMMFH.
Stephen Colbert - famous for hosting a fake news show, his sister is the democrat asshole who couldn't defeat Mark Sanford for that congressional seat

The only other guy of note from the state was a pioneer in the field of gynecology, Francis Sims. Do we really want to claim that?

Every two-four years the state would have a vote to allow Alcohol sales on Sunday and it would get shot down. It was just the culture more than anything else

Don't even get me STARTED on that dump...

Asheville has Biltmore House and nice weather for three seasons, but winters in the mountains are hell and it costs 75 bucks to tour Biltmore these days. The Outer Banks are nice in the spring and early summer but stay away during hurricane season.

The rest of the state is basically Virginia with lower SAT scores, or Tennessee with higher ones.

Maybe it's because I don't live there, but I love visiting Boston. It's one of my all time favorite cities. I have found the people to be very friendly, and I like the way the city lives and dies with their teams.
