You must not be very familiar with Red Sox history.

They went 86 years without winning a World Series before winning one in the very memorable 2004.

86 is more than 3 times 28. Pardon my stating what should be obvious from what I said earlier.

I was refering to playoff droughts and not title drought. Out of all the ATL sport franchises, the 95 braves are the only championship team in this city. I think Seattle has yet to win any titles

Agreed, but I think if you are to give up the guy who was arguably the best prospect in baseball at the time, you better be sure that Shields is the last piece of the puzzle. He clearly isn't, even if the Royals do make the playoffs. He is a good pitcher, but not a true ace.

I would never mortgage to next 10 years just to be mediocre, and possibly make the playoffs one or two seasons, without a realistic chance to win it all. The Royals gave up a good player, who was under team control for 6 seasons.

Different landscape in baseball now. Teams are willing to lock up the homegrown talent to long term deals. Though they are not a large market, KC has not been shy about spending money. They just choose to not do it wisely.

Boy Howdy...I've posted this elsewhere, but MAN do they suck:

South Carolina Gamecocks: the last two seasons of football have been better than the previous 130, combined; the only other accomplishments include two college world series titles in a watered down field and some women's track titles

Carolina Panthers: claim to fame = making an NFC title game in year two and then failing to win a superbowl a decade ago

Bolton Wanderers FC: Have spent more time in the top flight of English football (over 70 years) without ever actually winning a top flight title

New York Mets: 1969, 1986, not much else

Toronto Maple Leafs: the Chicago Fucking Cubs of the NHL

Other teams for which i have an affinity that also suck: the Toronto Blue Jays, the New York Jets, the old Charlotte Hornets/current New Orleans Pelicans (are you shittin me? even the NAME sucks), the Ottawa Senators, and a dozen other assorted teams and franchises that have also never won anything.

At least no one can ever affix the vile epithet "bandwagoner" to my name.
