That is kind of crazy though.

Our QB position is a disaster. You know what you get from Cousins. Above average play that gives you a chance to win most games.

Commanders have too much talent to be relying on Wentz, Heineke and Sam Howell.

Shrug.

He's absolutely better than anything we've had since. But I have thought 'damn I wish we still had cousins' roughly 0 times since he left.

It's a little like that 'i don't think about you at all' quote. I just don't care that he's gone and I think that's a somewhat common view in the fanbase even if we are worse off for it.

And fwiw I did think the right move was to extend him at the time (though it took me some time to come around to that view).

Then again, this is the most disinterested I've been in the team at any point in my life. Im pretty indifferent to all of it lately.

That is my thing.

The Snyder era has beat me down to the point that caring about the Commanders is a distant second to watching all my fantasy results.

You just know they aren’t going anywhere ever.

I still want them to do well, but man it is hard to get excited about this team.

it was fun watching them blindside the Eagles this year, the margins between the contending teams and the rest isn't huge, but there is still a definitive contrast between the two groups of teams. WAS has had a lot of good pieces the last few years but never a complete team, imo

They've got some interesting pieces, both sides of the ball fer sure. I mean, it's not hopeless there by any means...except for ownership, that's kinda hopeless

Well, i am sure we all have our frustrations... but i am convinced the QB who could be available will not solve anything for teams in need of a QB.

Not long ago the Bears had some nice pieces... a solid defense with Urlacher, Briggs and Peanut.... they had a HOF returner... and they had Forte and Brandon Marshall...

And with these solid pieces in place, if Grossman and Cutler cannot get the team over that next hurdle... well... it just shows that...

NFL TEAMS NEED AN ELITE QB, not just a better-than-the-last-guy QB.

I really though that when they added Cutler that would've been enough for the defense to carry the team to at least a SB appearance, but no

And how often does this happen? Or sustained?
Its the exception. Not the rule.

Maybe the Bills should trade Josh Allen for Carr... might be that Ravens-formula they're missing.

I tell ya what... the Niners should trade for Aaron Rodgers. It would be a minimal cap hit compared to what Green Bay would have to absorb. Plus the NFC is devoid of stud QB compared with the AFC.

I don’t know.

Jimmy Garrapolo and Brock Purdy are proving that wrong.

They may not win, but SF is good enough to win.

I think there are a lot of ways to build a legit contender in the NFL. Just if you don’t have that elite QB you need a solid game manager and an elite defense.

I would agree with this statement.

I think the NFL has proven that certain pieces of a team can offset the elite QB.

Great defense coupled with a mistake-free game manager is one that has been mentioned.

But again, i am sticking with my original post, since it is difficult in today's NFL to assemble "everything" a team needs... you MUST have an elite QB or your chances diminish.

absolutely, everything else is truly an exception, has been ever since Brady/Manning/Brees, at minimum.
And that elite defense? very hard to come by these days, the rules just don't allow for that style of play which makes elite defense possible. too much rougher the passer here, defenseless receiver there.
You'd basically need 4-5 Deon Sanders in the secondary ( no safeties, they can't hit anyways), a couple Urlachers in the middle, and a Dline with two Suh's in his prime and a couple Reggie White bookends.

It’s true. But the qb also has to not make mistakes. That’s why Purdy is good for this team. No, he is not great. But he plays a clean enough game to highlight the teams strengths.

One can argue that is early Tom Brady!!!

Without looking it up, I think Purdy is better than early Tom Brady at this stage in their careers

That is almost cringeworthy.

SF doesn’t just have an elite defense, they have a top O line and elite weaponry. There isn’t a team out there with more offensive talent.

Any halfway decent QB could excel with this group.

Purdy has been trusted to make throws year one more so that BB trusted Brady year one IMO.
