Purdy has been trusted to make throws year one more so that BB trusted Brady year one IMO.
I dunno that numbers bear that out. In Brady's 15 games in 2001 he averaged 27+ attempts a game including the one where he only played parts of the game in relief of Bledsoe, take that game out and Brady averaged nearly 30 attempts a game.
Purdy, if you only count the 8 games he's truly been the QB in, and not the two where he never had an attempt, or the one where he had a few in mop up duty, he's averaging just a hair over 20 attempts a game.

BTW, not for nothing but Brady's was year 2 Brady..year one Brady played in one game, 3 attempts for 6 yards..so tehcnically, it makes sense he may have been more trusted, having been in the system for a year plus.

Think Mayfield had a good first year. Trubisky too (didnt he make the pro-bowl?). Wentz? RG3.

Not trying to take anything away from Purdy... i love a good underdog story. But with some QB, a good first year doesnt always translate into a good career. And vice versa.

Only time will tell.

RGIII..that sumbitch. I blasted him coming out, blasted the 'Skins for drafting him..then he goes out makes me eat crow, and about the time I'm wiping the crumbs off my chin, he goes and proves me right allong

I think early career TB12 just wasn't that good, but he was so good for so long people forget. Patriots had an elite defense for most of his career too - he's still the goat, but it's still a team game and he's had some great teams

You had in your projections that the team that drafted RG3 would rush him back too soon from injury and ruin his career?

haha..yeah, I'm not so sure I buy into that side of the debate. tore up his knee in the playoffs of '12-'13 season, started the first 13 games of the '13 season, and was basically that same dude he was during the '12 season, only marginally worse, than benched for Cousins. Came back as the starter for first two games of '14 dislocated his ankle, returned and was basically the same QB he was in '13, than the concussion where he missed all of '15 and went to Cleveland where he broke his shoulder and then spent the rest of his career as a backup.

If an injury is the crutch to use for RG#'s career going into the crapper, I would point to the preseason concussion where he missed a full year, and Cleveland is the team that did, or did not, rush him back too soon.

But more to the point, not only did I not buy into his game translating to the NFL at that time, but him being fragile, especially given his game, and being not long for the league, was also part of my reasoning as to him being a bust.
Perhaps all those injuries made him gun shy, altered his state of play, but whether the 'Skins rushed him back or not, he was on that trajectory regardless.

Brock Purdy is not very good man.

Switch him with Taylor Heinicke and the results would be about the same for both.

Yeah, he has some swagger, but he has time to throw and CMac, Deebo, Aiyuk and Kittle to throw to.

NOBODY has that many high quality weapons.

And when he is pressured? He does that freak out spin move rollout to his left where he has almost no chance to make a positive play.

Comparing him to Brady is crazy. All they have in common is late round pick and winning games in relief.

Sure Purdy has some awesome weapons to work with and a good OL, but his team is scoring better with him behind center than with Jimmy G or Trey Lance and the 49ers offense is clearly clicking much better with Purdy. It's a small sample size and could change but so far he's done well.

I dunno if Purdy's gonna be good or not, but I've been impressed by the poise I've seen.

Plus, he is a really good story. ;)

Trey Lance is the one with too small a sample size to judge.

And Jimmy Garrapolo isn’t any good either.

Like I said, any halfway decent QB is winning with this team. Being better than Jimmy G (who by the way nobody seems to really want) does not merit a Tom Brady comparison.

Brady’s first year as a starter didn’t wow if your old enough to have watched him. Showed promise but was definitely getting the offense spoon fed to him.

I am not saying that he did.

It is still an absolutely crazy comparison because of what Brady became.

And as Joe showed you, Brady was certainly asked to do a lot more than Purdy has been.

Also, Brady unseated a pro-bowl QB in Drew Bledsoe.

I am not convinced Purdy will be able to beat out Trey Lance next season. Time will tell.

Brady didn't avg over 7 Yds/Att until his 5th or 6th season in the league. Purdy is over 8 as a rookie.

Purdy completion % might be 100 if he dinked and dunked like Brady did to start

And I don't see anyone saying Purdy is as good as Brady, but more that Brady wasn't a stud QB right out the gates. His supporting cast was extremely strong, as is Purdy's

To be fair, while none of those guys were Cory Dillon or Randy Moss, or Wes Welker...all were solid, legit pros in their times. He may not have had superior weapons, but he wasn't old mother Hubbard either

It doesn’t matter what Brady was out of the gate.

If Brady had 1 Super Bowl winning season and an ordinary career after, he wouldn’t be anything special.

Comparing somebody’s rookie season to the GOAT is just beyond pointless. Making that comparison implies that Purdy is special.

And he isn’t.

the comparison isn't saying Purdy's career will mirror Brady's

the comparison is that Brady walked into an ideal situation and prevented his team from losing NFL games. Took him a few years before Pats opened up the passing attack and Brady started being the reason they won vs being just a game manager

Just because Brady was awesome for such a long time doesn't mean he wasn't just a game manager who barely threw the ball past the 1st down marker to start

With 100 years of history you can find a QB to fit any argument. Truth is there is no game, no stretch, or no season that can define a career. Only time.

Me? I like what i see out of Purdy. But we dont know what next year will bring? Or even this weekend. Given the garbage that is oit there, why not take a risk on him?
