I'll agree to disagree. There are trades made during the season I really hate and I'm sure there could be trades I hate in the playoffs but trades and the draft are the life blood that make FF exciting and you got take the bad with the good. Plain as that.

You don’t have to take the good with the bad in the playoffs.

That is very easy to make a standard rule and prevent that.

Oh sure and we could have a rule that votes on regular season trades are needed to stop those bad trades in season also. We have neither in this league and the league been around for a while now. Seems fine to me.

If people are only looking to do fair trades then it absolutely sucks.

this is a ridiculous thing to say

and everyone is entilted to an opinion so i hate chiming in this way but i guess my opinion is just that what a dam foolish thing to say

especially when we are trying to settle what has become a rather (surprisingly subject)

Thought tlance had some good points:

I've seen some argue the positive side of acquiring a player before a title match. Thats great when a trade is to your benefit.

But what if the trade in question is benefiting your opponent? And the deal is going down the morning of?

Your opponent is thrilled.
The savvy non-playoff team is satisfied.
How are you feeling at that moment?
Maybe feeling like your opponent just "bought" an edge?

Not arguing the trade isnt fair. My concern is over the timing of it. You win with what you have come playoff time. Doesnt seem right to suddenly acquire what you didnt have (during the playoffs) so you can win.

I don't *want* to see my opponent add Derrick Henry right before the title game but I don't think I would feel cheated by it. He had to pay up for him just like anybody and I could've made a move instead if I wanted too.

I maybe can see a scenario where the team selling Henry decides he's worthless to them since they're out of it and sells him super cheap but I think that's kind of a niche scenario (even now I assume Henry holds some value for next year still) and still allows anybody to buy him.

I think I've softened on this view a bit. I can understand why people don't like it and I don't think there really needs to be more justification to want a trade deadline than that. but I'm not really sold on it being unfair.

I will tell you the difference.

Now Baker has been good all season.

But last week in a basically 1 week deal?

He had a dream matchup in a dream situation.

Must win for TB to potentially make the playoffs against a bad defense that has given up and is playing for nothing.

I was way more scared (rightly so) playing Baker than I would have been playing Hurts.

And of course Baker ended up as QB1 last week.

When it gets down to it, trading for an entire playoff run is a 3 week rental and you need the guy to produce 3 times.

Trading for a 1 week situation is just tough man.

Most of his value is still going to come from the future though imo. If you pay up for that one week I'm not even sure it's beneficial to the team buying.

Dude, the script was written.

He was not the QB1 all season.

There wasn’t a better matchup or a more obvious pro blow up game script all season long.

I think an important point in all this is that despite going off he didn't even change the outcome. it's really unlikely for one specific player to do that in one specific week which makes it kind of a buyer beware in these situations imo.

He scored 46 points and very easily could have changed the outcome.

I will just say this to for future if the league does not end up going with a deadline…

Any playoff trade had better be public.

Meaning, “hey, Mayfield is about to move. Last chance to make an offer to top it”.

A deal done quietly between 2 people does not allow the opportunity to create a bidding war which, to Milk’s point is the way not having a deadline actually makes sense.

And it also prevents any appearance of a collusive deal even though we do all trust each other’s intentions.

Part of why I dislike this concept so much is that I checked my opponent’s lineup on Xmas morning expecting to see Russell Wilson starting. And when I saw Baker there?

Was a huge WTF moment.

How did this happen?

And no, I am not suggestion @Barilko or @HaroldSeattle did anything wrong.

But I am telling you guys… if you are ever on my end of this you will see it does not feel good.

Let's say owner A is one game back of a playoff spot at the deadline.
Owner B is the last playoff holder.
Owner C is playing Owner B.
Owner A has the depth to make Owner C an offer that improves his chances of beating Owner B, but doesnt really help himself long term.
Owner C wins and Owner A gets the last playoff spot.

That's not collusion.
But Owner B would be just as deflated with the deadline deal as a playoff team would during the playoffs.

Trades have side effects no matter when they happen.

You're taking it better than I would have. I also wouldn't be upset at Bar or Harold.. but I'd certainly be hot in general
