Had to read Milk's comment twice. Pretty sure he's referring to the exorbitant trade price a playoff team may be spending.

That is the thing though…

I don’t think many people would do a deal like that.

The trade Barilko made for Baker seems like market value after the season he had.

There is a chance that he is buying high, but if he can be 85% of what he was this year moving forward, a late first and a lesser QB starter is not an exorbitant price IMO.

And that is the problem. Because it was market value, being a fair looking trade. One that he could have made during the off season and not given a team the advantage they needed in the playoffs.

That’s what makes it more painful for you, the team that faced him. The fact that he got the player he needed and didn’t really pay the price.

That’s why I am changing to your side tlance. I just don’t like the optics if the non playoff team doesn’t hose the playoff team.

I agree with you @tlance
But maybe to others, they dont see Mayfield repeating so i can understand how some would want to cash out on Baker.

Yeah…

I think really good chance Bar could flip Baker for a 1st right now.

I get that. I’m not sure he is repeating either.

If we were more confident that he would repeat, his price tag would be right there with the true elite QBs.

That is how good this past season was.

Over the course of the season I put Mayfield on the block and even though folks posted they were looking for a QB nobody made so much as a inquiry on what the price would be. My take was they figured the cost would be more then they wanted to give for a QB, a Lamar or Josh Allen type folks are willing to pay, the rest not so much. Folks worry that a late bloomer will turn back to his norm.

you dont need to defend... nobody is saying it is collusion.... i am just worried about future trades like this, if we do change our mind... especially if the received player decides the playoff match....

If the deadline is December 11th (like in D1) and someone does that trade, that makes a difference why?

Manager should be allowed to make moves that improve the teams outlook period, a deadline just takes away opportunity from teams that badly need it. Building for the future is a large part of Dynasty.

Imagine your favorite NFL team was going up against their opponent on the playoffs who just traded for Bijan Robinson and Bosa. Kinda how it feels without a trade deadline.

Imagine your favorite team had Bijan and Bosa just go down and they are not allowed to mitigate the damage because there is a rule against it.

Yeah, nobody saying you did anything wrong here. Or even that it is a bad trade for you.

I don’t think that is the case.

I will tell you the difference.

Now Baker has been good all season.

But last week in a basically 1 week deal?

He had a dream matchup in a dream situation.

Must win for TB to potentially make the playoffs against a bad defense that has given up and is playing for nothing.

I was way more scared (rightly so) playing Baker than I would have been playing Hurts.

And of course Baker ended up as QB1 last week.

When it gets down to it, trading for an entire playoff run is a 3 week rental and you need the guy to produce 3 times.

Trading for a 1 week situation is just tough man.

That is every league ever

Would have been Barilko.

Star goes down, next man up.

Trade for depth at the deadline so you have a contingency.

But… with a deadline, maybe the Bijan owner is willing to give a 2nd for Tyler Algeir. No deadline? Yeah, you might get a 1st if Bijan goes down. But you get nothing if he stays upright through the first 2 games.

Not possible to have a good backup for all your stud players in a 16 team league, without a deadline the contingency is to mitigate the damage best you can with a trade, which will cost you a piece of your future capitol most likely.

You can’t handcuff everybody.

But you should try to have a playable RB and WR on your bench

Not easy to do, but something I always strive for
