The Tampa Bay Rays have traded INF Osleivis Basabe to the San Francisco Giants in exchange for cash considerations.

If the last name sounds familiar, it's because Osleivis Basabe is a cousin to Luis Alexander Basabe, who appeared briefly and provided a spark of energy for the Giants in 2020. The 40-man roster is now full.

Osleivis was a top ten prospect in the TB system prior to 2024. Good defender but the bat is poor and got worse in 2024. Still only 24 years old so hoping for some growth. If not, he's AAA depth that can handle SS defensively.

He is also a cousin of Luis Matos.
Top 10 prospect one year and waiver wire fodder the next? That's a big drop for how fast it happened.

Basabe sounds like wasabi in my head. That made me think about adding spices and so I heard you say that you were adding an ingredient. Thus, you are cooking up something.

Updated for Spring Training

I couldn’t find a lot of data on NRIs, so that data may be outdated.

Why does this feel like a case of relying too heavily on spring training numbers?
I default to trusting that BoMel and the rest of the org know what they're doing. They've watched Trevino and Jelly all Spring...the 6-11 guy will be back up.

He was solid enough that I didn't expect a poor spring would have gotten him optioned.
Not sure he had a "poor" spring, but Trevino really is throwing the ball well. And, Jelly is just a phone call away if we need him.
