Oh wow, I don't think any of us saw that coming. Neither Schmitt nor Koss have much (or any) outfield experience. Interesting move.
I have heard mention that Schmidt can handle the OF (on KNBR, so take it for what it’s worth).

Chasey does not strike me as an OFer. His bat isn’t near good enough and his glove is not as good as I was expecting.

I guess it is Pegs, Koss and Rodriguez all competing for the last roster spot?

27 on the active roster with Jerry and Murph slated for the IL. With both Wise and McCray out of the running now, I would guess Koss has the inside track? 40 space is a non issue thanks to Jerry likely hitting the 60.

Per Krukow on KNBR, Koss has made the team.

Seven IF is weird, assuming Schmitt makes it. But I guess LWJ and Fitz can play OF too. And all four OF can play CF. Unless a move is coming....
There was talk in the off season that Wade could get OF reps this year. I have not followed the games in ST at all this year, so I have not followed the idea if he has actually gotten out there.

Gonna be interesting, and maybe this won't even matter but...

We are quite RHH/RHP
We have a LOT of IF
Bird won't get a start every five days.

The Birdsong decision is quite perplexing. Why do they need him in the bullpen? I'd much rather have him starting in AAA. Unless they use him as a multi inning reliever, I'm not sure how fast they could get him stretched out to start or even where he lands on the rotation depth chart right now.

Agreed, and I think he IS the long man - replacing Jelly.

But, BoMel and the staff know 1,000x what we do. They have reasons.
