Once again, I misread your post. That was my point. Imho, he WAS a major contributor last year.

It isn't just down to Trivino and Hjelle. It was also Randy Rodriguez, Spencer Bivens, Joel Peguero and either Birdsong or Roupp (if the Giants choose to put one in the bullpen). To me, that says Melvin didn't have much trust in Hjelle's 2024 season or his 2025 spring training. Not sure he had a "poor" spring, but Trevino really is throwing the ball well. And, Jelly is just a phone call away if we need him.
I don’t know why. It isn’t like I drape them in sarcasm and attempted humor.Once again, I misread your post.
Per BoMel, Bivens has made the team.It isn't just down to Trivino and Hjelle. That means the final bullpen spot is between Rodriguez and Peguero.Per BoMel, Bivens has made the team.
Joey Peggs!!That means the final bullpen spot is between Rodriguez and Peguero.
I am trying to remember, isn't there a limit on how many pitchers can be carried on the active roster and isn't it 13?With the pitching staff looking set, and 10 position players essentially set in stone, it seems that these five players are competing for three spots:
INF: Koss, Schmitt, Wisely
OF: Matos, McCray
Peguero's still in camp and could make bullpen (that'd be 14 pitchers/12 hitters).
I do you really see the Giants optioning Miller, the only lefty in the bullpen right now? With the 2 last NRIs, we still have 32 in camp.
I expect Jerry will be placed on the 60 and Murphy will start on the 15, RanRod, Miller, Chasey and Wisely will be optioned, Koss will be added to the 40/26 (taking Jerry’s spot).
That leave Pags as the odd man out, but I just don’t see room in the bully for him (or on the 40). Maybe they can DFA Meckler or Basabe, but that would require optioning Birdy (which I want anyway).
I was stretching hard to make the numbers work with Miller. You are right, though, that that doesn’t make any sense (neither did trading Rogers, but that is a different story).I do you really see the Giants optioning Miller, the only lefty in the bullpen right now?
Maybe I'm misunderstanding your count but I have 30 healthy players in camp (not counting Encarnacion and Murphy). Max Stassi is still in camp but, last I heard, he is going down to Sacramento. That means 3 players still need to be sent down.
Only one needs to be a pitcher (the pitching staff is currently at 12 guaranteed - Rogers, Trivino, Verlander, Ray, Doval, Hicks, Webb, Walker, Birdsong, Bivens, Miller and Roupp) and the there are two other pitchers in camp to fit into the last bullpen spot - Rodriguez and Peguero.
My understanding is that Wisely and Koss both make it and McCray and Schmitt get sent down.
If both Peguero and Koss make the team, then, as you mentioned Encarnacion is placed on the 60 day IL and probably Basabe gets dfa'd. Koss essentially replaces him on the 40 man roster. But, yes, Meckler or even Beck or possibly Winn get dfa'd instead.
Might want to re-count your list. You have 29 guys listed from the 40 man roster still in camp but indicate 30.I was stretching hard to make the numbers work with Miller. You are right, though, that that doesn’t make any sense (neither did trading Rogers, but that is a different story).
By my notes, we have 30 rostered players and 2 NRI’s. Within those 30, though, are Jerry and Murph, so that brings us down to 30.
Stassi was sent to minor league camp “officially”. While that really doesn’t mean anything, it is at least an indicator that Huff will hold down the back up catching job to start. (Bailey and Huff)
We have 5 locked slots in the infield. Hard to defend carrying 2 more. I lean towards Koss because I have heard that the team REALLY likes him, and Chasey and Wisely both have options. (Wade, Flores, Adames, Fitz, Chappy, Koss)
The OF is pretty set. The only question is if McCray and Matos both make the team or if they decide to go with a REALLY deep infield instead. (Lee, Yaz, Ramos, Matos, McCray)
The rotation has already been announced (Webb, JV, Ray, Hicks, Roupp)
That leaves 8 spots for the bully. (Walker, Doval, Rogers, Miller, Trivino, Birdsong, Bivens, Rodriguez)
That still leaves Pags on the outside, but it adds Koss. Koss can be added easily enough by putting Jerry on the 60. This also assumes Murph starts on the 10 (or is it 15 again this year?)
