As for the playoffs, I think Littell (yeah, I know, you just vomited a little) is in over Duggar. The Giants may want more arms than 13. They've usually carried 14 pitchers through most of the season.

Maybe, but I think they're slightly more likely to carry 12 pitchers than 14. Don't need the extra SP. But I think they most likely end up with 13. The question is Castro v. Shittell.

I don't think that's a huge concern. But you may be right. Hadn't considered that.

If the rules are still the same, Castro can only be on the postseason roster if he replaces an eligible player who is injured. That is because he wasn't on the active roster before September 1st. They may be able to get him in as Belt's replacement, though.

I looked up the rules and the player only has to be on the 40 man roster or 60 day IL with the team by August 31st. I thought it was on the active roster on, or before August 31st.

Based on what I'm reading, Kazmir would be eligible for the team to petition the commissioner's office to have him replace someone who is on the IL since he was in the org, but not on the 40 man or 60 day IL, on August 31st. Because the Giants have 4 players on the 60 day IL, all placed by August 31st, Kazmir could be petitioned to replace any of them. Belt couldn't count since his placement will be effective today and it won't be 10 days yet by the time the postseason starts. I assume that all of Cueto, McGee and Ruf will be activated by then.

Assuming my effective date is accurate, Ruf is not eligible to come off the IL until Sunday.

So assuming Belt will be placed on the IL today (effective Sunday), I think theses are the candidates to be called up or activated…

Long
Jackson
Bart
Estrada

Bart would allow some flexibility to put Posey at 1st, but Posey hasn’t played a single inning at 1st all season, so I doubt that will happen.

Cueto is apparently pencilled in as the Thursday starter, so I doubt he will be the move today.

I have not heard anything regarding McGee’s status, but if he is ready, I think he is the no-brainer move.

Long and Jackson, I think, are long shots (no pun intended), but if FZ/Kap think an arm is needed over a bat, one of them could be the move.

Estrada is likely the default move, unless McGee is ready.
