I don't get the Giants handling of Ramos at all.

This is not the case anymore. Players now have a max of 6(??) options per year. The 7th time a player is sent down in a single season exposes that player to waivers. This is a new rule coming from the new CBA.

Thx, I did not know that. A " Good Thing™ " in my opinion. Nothing screws up a players as much as getting called up every month (or few weeks) for a day or 4, then sent back down.

The Giants added Isan Díaz to 40-man & claimed catcher Dom Nuñez from Rockies. Austin Dean, Bryce Johnson, Taylor Jones, Zack Littell & Ford Proctor cleared waivers and were outrighted to AAA. Andrew Vasquez and Luis Ortiz were claimed by Phillies. End of season roster-clearing.

With today's activity (2 additions, 7 deletions), the 40-man roster stands at 31. That could change in a day depending on what they do with Evan Longoria.

They also have 8 players currently on the 60-day that they will need to activate shortly, so it'll shoot right back up to around 40 if they keep all 8 players.

I don't think they'll keep Welker, Delaplane, or LaStella though. First two will be non tendered. Might resign them to minor league deals

Nontender is after the deadline to add players to protect from the Rule 5. I wouldn't be surprised if a few of the guys on the 60 go straight to waivers (i.e. Walton, Delaplane, Welker. Maybe even Llovera and/or Santos).

And I believe this puts the 40 man roster at 32 without the guys from the 60 day being activated. You probably are not counting Alexander, who is not a free agent after all.

I wonder how long Diaz and Nunez last before being dfa'd this offseason. Maybe as long as spring training?

I'm disappointed that Ortiz was let go. He looked good in limited action with the club. I was going to say I'm surprised at some of the moves but then I was reminded who runs the FO. I wish Marte was one of those who got dfa'd. Not sure why they hang on to him while letting go of the players they do.

By my count, if you include the under contract and 60 guys (27 combined), the Arb-eligible guys (12) and Longo, that puts us at exactly 40 right now.

You do still have Dean listed among the 27, while also listed in "significant minor league adds"

Dean, Littell and Jones all have the ability to become minor league free agents. I would be surprised if they don't go that route.

Jones and Proctor's removal illustrates the frivolity of this FO's hyper claims and dfa's. Why were either added when they were removed so quickly? Proctor never needed to be added to the 40 man roster to begin with and he hardly earned that promotion to the big league club. The Giants just burned a dfa on him. Now, if he does perform well enough to get purchased next year and subsequently gets dfa'd, he could just walk. Oh, and he was the guy who replaced Kervin Castro on the 40.

It's a minor detail but I'm not sure of the point of claiming Dom Nuñez. Hits from the left side, good walk rate, and okay framing. I feel like the Giants could add that skill set without a 40-man roster spot.
