Still wondering about the status of Jharel Cotton. No updates that I can find anywhere.

Waiting for confirmation but it looks like:

Cotton up
Hjelle down.
Apparently, that was just the beginning.

Uh . . . why? Waites should stay with the club the rest of the season. Keep giving him opportunities to face big league hitters. Is Miller really getting a 2 week showcase for 2023?

I want to see Waits, Hjelle and Szapucki for the rest of the season, results be damned. Just give them experience.

Miller should have been looked at in early August. Why wait until 2 weeks before the season is over? He's a free agent, is this simply to see if they want to re-sign him? Then do so as a minor league free agent and give him his chance in spring training 2023.

But he gives them the best chance to win this year, and they haven’t given up hope on this season yet.

Jarlin Garcia was placed on the paternity list — the Giants had been anticipating this. Sean Hjelle recalled.

I assume Hjelle will be kept on the active roster the rest of the season. He doesn't have any options remaining this year.

They aren't individual options, they are option YEARS. If he didn't have to pass through waivers the other times he was optioned this year then he doesn't need to pass through waivers at any point this year.

This is not the case anymore. Players now have a max of 6(??) options per year. The 7th time a player is sent down in a single season exposes that player to waivers. This is a new rule coming from the new CBA.

The max is actually 5, which is where Hjelle is at right now.

Jarlin Garcia is back from paternity leave.
And Sean Hjelle was optioned and then recalled when Logan Webb was placed on the 15 day IL. I'd love to know how the Giants were able to option Hjelle a 6th time this season without having to send him outright to Sacramento.

btw, nothing wrong with Webb...they just want to shut him down given the workload. Smart move.

I would like to see him stretched, but they have the “experts” who “know” how to best work his stamina, so I am OK with shutting him down.

Intriguing note from pregame: Tommy La Stella's locker is cleaned out and now Jason Vosler holds it. The club allowed him to go home early, Gabe Kapler said. The other IL players are still around. Kapler said he's still a part of the team.
