Austin Dean as well. Probably multiple roster moves coming. At this point, anyone on the IL (and not yet on the 60-day) can be transferred to the 60-day given how little of the season is remaining.
That’s only Wood and Slater. Both should be back (though I would be OK with shutting Wood down)

Leone to the IL
Mercedes clears waivers and is outrighted (apparently he was DFA’d earlier this week)
Dean added to 28 and 40

And it looks like my 40 count was off somehow. We are now at 40.

From what I heard, Dean is on the roster. That will require someone from the 28 to be DFA’d or optioned. Waites is in Chicago, but has not been added to the roster yet. Likely just the taxi squad (whatever that is, exactly, I still don’t really know).

We already have an open spot on the 40 from Belt going to the 60, so that isn’t an issue for Dean.
Leone to IL

Dominic Leone was released today, freeing up a 40 spot.

Kapler says giving Leone his release allows him to find a spot elsewhere before the end of the season if there is an opportunity. Notes how important Leone was last year, like many relievers this year was just inconsistent.

No roster moves before today’s game. Giants still have Shelby Miller and Cole Waites here but bullpen got a lot of rest yesterday. It’s stopped raining and Gabe Kapler said he doesn’t expect any delays.

It might be a minor detail at this point, but putting Tommy La Stella on the IL could be the end of his Giants tenure even though he is under contract for next season. He is owed $11.5M in 2023 ($6.25M CBT hit) and no team is going to trade for him at that rate without prospects attached. I just can't see the Giants bringing him back as 1 of the 6/7 infielders they will carry next season.

I will be mildly shocked if they jettison him, but there has been a lot of talk on KNBR and from the beats about that possibility over the last week or 2.

I'm thinking its more likely than not. He's washed. Not his fault but injuries will do that.

From Baggs:

Optioning Littell has consequences. He had spent 14 days on optional assignment at AAA. A team burns an option once a player spends 20 days in MiLB on optional assignment. Littell had one option remaining entering this season. Now he'll almost certainly be out of options in 2023.

Zack Littell will be out of minor league options and arbitration-eligible for the first time this offseason. His time on the 40-man roster is at an end this offseason.

And will either earn him a non-tender, or a ST cut rather than a go at free agency.

And interesting to see a rage-demotion. I don’t remember the last time we have seen anything like that from this org. Melky and Guillen were not welcomed back, but those weren’t split-second rage decisions. MAYBE Rowand and Tejada getting cut on about the same day, but that was making a statement to the team that resting on contracts wasn’t going to cut it (my interpretation of those moves).
