They signed Hollywood and traded him away. Watkins doesn't count as an investment in anything other than bandages and icy hot.

Investing and investing smartly are two very different things apparently.
It seems to me that Lamar has not taken advantage of the weapons he has rather than not having weapons.

His best WR was Hollywood, who has a high drop percentage and was dealt away. Bateman (19 games over 2 seasons) can't stay healthy, Boykin managed a whopping 33 catches over 3 seasons, then went to the Steelers and netted two in 16 games. Watkins is a walking bandage.

Spending two firsts in the last 4 years on WRs is a commitment to give Lamar weapons and since the Ravens draft late it's not easy to hit on players, this isn't a Packer like problem where the team doesn't attempt to find him weapons. In fact Ravens just over paid big to sign Odell. Likely a mistake, but a move Lamar approves of.

The Ravens offensive style is self-fulfilling that prophecy. Protect the QB better in the passing game, give him more targets that can actually get open and catch the ball beyond Andrews, etc.
Yes....and no.

Look, teams all over watch the film. They know if they feel a QB can make the plays, throws, read the defenses, do the right things...WR, no WR, running game, no running game...teams spend a shit ton of money in analytics - they know what kind of QB Lamar is despite all of what he has, or doesn't have, surrounding him on offense.

His legs make his game. With WR's or without. They don't trust his head or his arm, and his legs have an expiration date that is much sooner than his ability to learn how to be a pocket QB would allow. If teams thought it were possible - he'd be signed. Either by the Ravens or an offers sheet by someone else.

A top 5 QB is worth multiple 1st round picks. You get a sure thing, and the cap numbers can be fudged around and moved around to make things happen. The only question is, then...is the QB worth it. Teams have clearly answered this question about Lamar.

....and Kyler got paid for performing worse than Lamar and getting hurt more often.
Murray was a ProBowler in years 2 & 3. He was paid after year 3 when he was still ascending. Jackson's last 3 seasons are of a similar quality to Murray's 1st 3. They're not substantially better and he's missed more games than Murray.

This has been part of the issue as well, IMO.

He had an MVP season. Instead of building off that year, or showing that there would be some type of consistency, his numbers regressed the following season.

Then he missed the ending to both the 2021 and 2022 season...both due to leg/ankle/knee injuries.

Then you add into the equation the running factor in his success at QB play and there you have the foundation for most teams to be rather worried about his long-term viability and that MVP season starts to look more and more like an outlier rather than an expectation.

Get back to me on those missed games later this season.

His performance tailed off late in those seasons whether he missed games or not. THIS is the guy that is the injury risk over Lamar.

Don't disagree with that.

But at least there was some consistency with regards to timing of when the contract came about.

Unfortunately for Lamar, he had that MVP season a year too early, probably...not that you control such things...but then taking a step back (not huge, but definitely a step back) the following year and then not being able to finish out his last 2 years with multiple injuries involving his legs/foot/knee....

Just bad timing when compared in this situation.

Lamar's missed-time injuries were an ankle sprain, then a knee PCL sprain to be specific.

Correct...both injuries to the most important parts of the body for the style of QB he plays....

And he doesn't have to pay a percentage to an agent.

On the other hand, an agent is going to a better job on endorsements, etc.

Looks like Lamar won. An overpay imo but...again...kinda balances out the underpay from what he provided earlier in his career.
