I'm not sure how often this has happen before if ever where team has a Cy Young winner and then an offensive player win the MVP in the same year. It appears this has a good chance of happening with the Cubs being the best team in the Majors and have K. Bryant who's batting over 300 and is 1rst in HR's and 4th in RBI's and K. Hendricks leads the NL in ERA. This is crazy, the cubs have 4 pitchers in the top ten for lowest ERA. Their worst starting pitcher for the Cubs this year was the best starter for the Cards last season in Lackey. It's almost unfair. It's basically the All star team vs everyone else.

Kris Bryant's 5th inning HR went 471 ft. It was the sixth longest this season in baseball and 2nd longest by a Cub since 2009.

Bryant's probably the best player in the NL right now. Seager's got a pretty good case for NL MVP as well. A shortstop hitting a Nomar-esque .314/.369/.532 (141 wRC+).

Depending on how the season finishes off there is a legit chance they could have the top 2 in both categories imo. If Arrieta and Hendricks pitch well the rest of the year and Rizzo and Bryant keep raking they could easily make a case. Probably would not happen as they'd invariably split votes but you could argue for it

Arrieta has a real big innings gap to make up for this dream scenario to happen.

And his Ks are lacking.

Not enough starts left in the season.

No Cub is Top 3 in voting imo. Bum, Cueto and Scherzer.

I remember the last time the Cubs won 100+ games. They got swept by the Dodgers in the first round.

I'm just saying, it's best to temper your expectations when it comes to baseball. The Dodgers are doing just fine and that's with Kershaw out.
The Dodgers WITH Kershaw aren't even a contender. It's between the Cubs, Giants, and Nationals this year. Nobody cares about an irrelevant division series from 8 years ago.

The Dodgers in the postseason are pretty much a fart in the wind these days.

Kyle Hendricks leads all 3 in ERA, and leads Bumgarner and Cueto in WHIP.
