Randy Carlyle on Sid's jaw: "Is that the hockey gods trying to send a message?"

I'm still confused about what magical rule the Pens broke...assembling talent? Taking advantage of the cap space made because of a fair trade(s)?

Didn't Carlyle play his best hockey with the Pens? (I think he even won a Norris trophy with Pittsburgh). Just doing a drive-by here pix, nothing to get worried about.

Yep. I mean, then they traded him...it just seems like an internet troll comment, not a head coach of a major NHL club comment.

Also, when you start smack talking other teams misfortune with injuries, the hockey gods have a way of ensuring payback. You would think Carlyle would know this better than most folks.

Sounds like Randolph's job was been scrutinized in MARCH. Maybe he should lay low for a little while. Maybe stay with a relative? Y! SPORTS

just speculating, but i think he was hinting at crosby using his jaw to complain.. basically telling him after the fact that he should shut up and play.

very much a scorned fan's comment though, not something an NHL coach should be saying.

maybe putting a hideously awful product on the ice for years to enable the assemblage of Crosby, Malkin, Fluery, Stahl et al...not unlike their original mario success...that would be my guess

well, your reasoning and facts are patently wrong.

Yes, but the implication that they purposefully made the team hideous just to get those draft picks is wrong. Coming out of bankruptcy (thanks Howard Baldwin), they had to fire sale all of their talent and salaries from 2001-2004 just to stay solvent.

No i dont think that era was on purpose. They did tank purposfully to get mario though.

I do think there should be some limit on teh amount of say top 5 picks one team can have with a 3 or 4 year period. The current system rewards bad management (see currently Edmonton)

yes, I can agree with that, in the 1983-84 season, they did. But both the pens and devils were neck and neck the entire season, and the season prior. We just tanked a little better. :)

It looked like it deflected off of an Isle d-man to me. I want to say that it hit his stick?

Oh ok I didnt see it deflect. Only watched the replay once.

I know I was only supposed to talk about meatloaf in this thread, but I just hope Sid's back for the playoffs. The roster can survive the rest of the regular season without him, and probably even hold onto the number 1 seed, number 2 at the worst of course. But the playoffs are a different animal, and they'll need a healthy Crosby.

He must have mocked a fortune cookie, or something, though, because Sid's really unlucky when it comes to these sorts of things.

The two years leading up to the Lemieux draft, the Pens and Devils were equally bad, so either the Pens were just as bad as the Devils, or they did a tremendous tank job both years just to try to hide it.

Devils were such a mickey mouse operation, they couldn't even tank right.

Kirk Muller is not a bad consolation prize, as far as second overall picks go.
