From Cowboys.com

The contract is reportedly a one-year deal with a club option for three more, depending on Melton's performance in 2014. The price figures to be a bit lower than expected for one of the league's top defensive tackles, as Melton missed the majority of 2013 with an ACL injury. Financial details have not been disclosed, but Melton's price tag would increase if he is brought back.

sounds like maybe he really wanted to play for his old coach.

I like the way that sounds. Are the last 3 one three year option or 3 one year options?

Sounds like a good deal. He's the one guy I've wanted all free agency, at the right price of course. Now, if we can solidify the spot next to Church in the 1st I'd be a happy camper.

I hope he draft Donald and helpfully bring in a F/A db Cromartie would be a solid pick up if we can get him on the cheap and a good insurance policy if Mo can't stay healthy. I'm confident if he stays healthy this will be a breakout season for him (Mo). I know signing Cromartie isn't like just my wish I want another corner.

Anyone hear the specifics yet? As we know the devil is always in the details. So far I like what I hear. One year deal with a 3 year extension if he is still on the roster next year is what I read. Throw in an early pick in the draft and the DL looks OK...still wondering about Spencer...

Good signing! Makes it so Dallas doesnt HAVE to draft DLine. Gives you a better opportunity to draft BPA over need.

"FOX Sports' Mike Garafolo reports Henry Melton's deal is a one-year contract that turns into a four-year agreement if he's on the Cowboys' roster the first day of the 2015 league year.

Per Garafolo, more guaranteed money will also kick in if Melton survives through the first day of the next league year. It's creative structuring that could pan out in a big way for the Cowboys if Melton bounces back from his torn ACL for a strong 2014.*"

Sounds like the low risk high reward deal we were hoping for. If he stays healthy should be good deals for both sides.

S, CB LB and DL are still priorities. The order may change but DL early is still a need.

True ..... but it just raised my hopes for a Free Safety 1000 fold

Now instead of Donald ( who I would still jump on BTW) Hageman or Nix in the 1st we can gra a safety

Martin will be there in the second (DE) Which I also think is a day one starter. (Main reason is because of Rod and his ability to coach up D-lineman) (( Haha yeah I'm high on this kid and would really like to have him))

Christopher Jones out of Florida at Lber in the 3rd

4th another Cb or NT

PE1's right .... it helped alot as far as having the ability to draft the best player avaliable ( I still think it should be best player at a need position)

I still don't think we are in position to take a Luxury Pick

His contract is worth $955,000 with no money none guaranteed.
don't know about what guarantees he gets if they pick up the option.

I love it when a player has the balls to bet on himself

do not like this. maybe he will end up being a good pick up for us and at least the deal is short and cheap. Still don't think he is ready to start the season, either due to rehab or league punishment. No way we pick up the option, heard it was 3 years at $8M per year average.

Oh well, we need bodies. Just think we could have found bodies in the draft and not spent the money on an injured guy that can't keep out of trouble in DFW.

What? Where did you read/hear that? That is beyond shocking to me that all he could get was a one year deal for those $'s. Are you sure that isn't his salary and there is also a signing bonus?

Are you kidding me? At those $'s? I know you didn't want the guy, but you need to reevaluate your opinion if that really is the contract he signed. He could play half a season and it would be a great deal for us. Look at our DL right now without him and don't assume whomever we pick in the draft is definitely going to be good year one because there are no guarantees. IMO this is one of the better deals we have ever given to any well known FA if you take into account our cap problem, our DL problem, his knowledge of the defense, the fact that Marinelli obviously OK'd it and the contract details. I think even if we extend him it is still way below the $ amount I expected to see. I'm kind of shocked you think this was a bad move...

If true, he got less (if we don't extend him) than Mincey and McClain and I'm not 100% sure both of them make the final roster if we spend a couple of early picks at DL.
