How is attendance in Jersey?

Mediocre, not terrible. The problem is, I believe the one partner that was involved with the team made his money through real estate which tanked, he couldn't afford to be a partner anymore and pretty much bailed on the situation. JVB took on that 47% share and can't sustain both his and his former partners share of the team.

This also makes me believe the rumors about the Devils signing Kovy as a way to lure Mikhail Prokhorov into buying the team.

Minimum salaries in the CFL this year are $30,000 for rookies and $32,000 for veterans. The minimum increases to $35,000 next year as a result of the CFL’s new Collective Bargaining Agreement. The average CFL salary is about $45,000 Canadian.

Starters, excluding quarterbacks, can command anywhere between $60,000 and $120,000, depending on their position. Quarterbacks are generally the highest-paid players, making between $150,000 and $300,000

Been saying for years that the NHL should take note of how the CFL pays it's players.

You have a hell of a lot less movement of players, affordable ticket prices, and stable ownership of most franchises.

Nashville would have been more than likely able to keep Suter, and the Devils Parise,if other teams were only able to offer, let's say between 5-7 mil a year(if this were deemed their pay scale). It then comes down to loyalty to your team,or going for the extra $$$.

One problem with that. I haven't heard anything about Prokhorov being interested in buying a hockey team. He's all about Basketball. Brookyn is trying very hard to get Wang to move the Islanders their. If that happens Prokhorov could be more likely to buy the Islanders instead because they'll already be in his arena.

I will be surprised if Prokhorov buys a hockey team. I just don't think it interests him. Time will tell.

I must admit I'm surprised the Devils are in this position. I had no idea Wang had much deeper pockets. Wang might be losing money every year, but there hasn't been any talk of the league being forced to take over the team.

Since then it has come out that he has no interest in a hockey team, however that was the belief when the signing occurred (keep in mind the Nets and Devils shared an arena for 2 seasons so it's safe to assume the two owners knew each other).

What do you think the chances are of finding a partner? Is there any talk of just putting the team up for sale? That's probably what the league would do anyway.

No idea, but the article I posted showed that they have cut the debt tremendously. A while back there were rumblings of Nelson Peltz, the owner of Wendy's, being interested but haven't heard anything recently. I know he was interested in the Isles as well.

Yeah I've heard Peltz mentioned by Isles fans as a possibility. To my knowledge the Isles aren't for sale. However, Wang was at the league offices the other day & it had nothing to do with the CBA negotiations. Up to this point nobody has any idea why he was their.

Hopefully the Devils situation is resolved without the league having to do anything. The league has had more than it's fair share of teams being sold in recent years that's for sure. Heck the Yotes situation still hasn't been resolved.

Hockey is getting ready to freeze out New Jersey Devils owner Jeff Vanderbeek. NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman is preparing to take control of the money-losing hockey franchise in the event Vanderbeek fails to refinance the Devils’ debt before a looming Aug. 14 deadline, The Post has learned.

In recent days, the commissioner’s office has told potential suitors to be ready in case he moves on the team and pushes Vanderbeek aside, a source close to the situation said.

Vanderbeek is near a deal to sell a majority stake to a mystery investor, which would allow him to keep control of the Eastern Conference champions, one source said. The proceeds from a sale would be used to repay lenders much of the $77 million in past due debt. But while Bettman has said publicly that he expects the Devils’ financial situation to be resolved soon, his behind-the-scenes moves suggest he’s far from confident that a deal will get done.

EXCLUSIVE: NHL plans to take Devils from Vanderbeek - NYPOST.com

"The Post Has Learned...."

and now from a slightly more reputable source...

Fire & Ice - Devils’ debt deadline likely to pass with no action from lenders
