Alabama can't even beat Oregon or Clemson, much less an NFL team. They'd never score a point.

Seconded. This is the dumber thing ever. We are not even sure Bama is a great college team. Maybe 3-4 players would play for Jackonville.

This ^^ . They have maybe a 1/2 dozen guys who'd even make the Jags roster today, much less start. Jags by about 30... and are we going to do this every week ?

How about this argument: could the best players from Alabama and LSU at their time in college over the last 4 years beat the Jacksonville jaguars?

Jags still cover a triple digit spread.

You're getting closer. You do the research. I don't follow these teams. How many guys from those teams are on NFL squads ? How many are starters ? Who'll be the QB ?

Last year South Carolina Head Coach Steve Spurrier claimed that Alabama could beat some NFL teams and would even be favored in some matchups. This of course sparked a debate that we settled by simulating the Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Alabama.

Last weekend Alabama easily dispatched another ranked opponent and the Jaguars lost by more than three touchdowns for the third time this season. With Alabama gunning for a three-peat and Jacksonville “playing dead for Ted” we thought we would run this simulation back, except we will simulate the Crimson Tide against every winless team in the NFL.

Alabama: Do they have enough talent to win?
Since the start of the 2011 college football season, Alabama has been at the top of our College Football Power Rankings every single week.

Since 2008, Alabama has had 33 players selected in the NFL Draft. Of those 33 players, 14 have been first round draft picks. In last year’s draft, nine players from Alabama were selected, the most from the school since 1945.

On this year’s squad, eight players rank in the top 200 of the 2014 NFL Draft Prospects (per CBS Sports). This includes three projected first round picks in Cyrus Kouandjio (OT), C.J. Mosley (OLB), and Ha-Ha Clinton-Dix (FS). Plus, two of Alabama’s most exciting prospects are true sophomores T.J. Yeldon (RB) and Amari Cooper (WR) who are not avaiable for next year's draft.

Of course the talent is there but how does it stack up against NFL teams?

Alabama vs. the NFL (0-4 teams)
We simulated each matchup on a neutral field, with the assumption that each team had equal time to prepare and that games were played under NFL rules.

Winning Team Win Percentage Score Tampa Bay Buccaneers 95.8% 37-10 Pittsburgh Steelers 95.7% 40-12 New York Giants 95.4% 39-12 Jacksonville Jaguars 91.4% 32-13
Alabama loses and it is not really close. Each of the four winless NFL teams would be more than 90% likely to win and, on average, defeat Alabama by more than three touchdowns.

NFL players represent the best of the best and there are 11 players for each team on the field at all times. As good as Alabama has been recently, they are not responsible for one-thirty second of the league's players. And even if they were, players improve over time with experience, coaching and physical maturation.

After the 2011 season, Alabama had 11 starters who could be drafted into the NFL. Eight of them were – including an impressive four in the first round. Of those eight NFL players, only four have been active for more than one game this season. Only two Alabama players – Trent Richardson and Mark Barron - from last year's superior team are starting for their NFL teams right now. And NOT ONE of the 2012 NFL Draft picks from Alabama is playing at an above average level in the league in his rookie season.

Some other quick hitters:
Jacksonville's Blaine Gabbert just completed 71% of his 38 passes for 220 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions against a Lions' defense that includes ridiculously good college players like Ndamukong Suh (Nebraska, All-American), Nick Fairley (Auburn, All-American – who dominated on the interior over Alabama two years ago), Cliff Avril (Purdue, All Big Ten), Kyle Vanden Bosch (Nebraska, All Big 12), Travis Lewis (Oklahoma, All Big 12 and Freshman All-American), DeAndre Levy (Wisconsin, All Big Ten), Lawrence Jackson (USC, All-American), Ronnell Lewis (Oklahoma, All-American), Alphonso Smith (Wake Forest, All-American) and Chris Houston (Arkansas, All SEC).

To the best of my research, Jacksonville's current active roster includes 28 former first team all-conference players and 13 former first team All-Americans (at their respective collegiate levels).

LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger had 1,511 total passing yards on 120 of 209 passing (57.4% completions, 7.22 yards-per-attempt) before Saturday. Against BCS-AQ opponents, he was 61-for-124 for 767 yards (49.2%, 6.2). Against Alabama, Mettenberger completed 24 of 35 passes for 298 yards (68.6%, 8.5). Alabama is not invincible.

There are not any major weaknesses on this Alabama team, but I don't see anywhere in the numbers where the Crimson Tide roster currently has a matchup advantage over any NFL roster.

Obvious to me that Alabama would have the best chance vs an NFL team but would still get smoked.

For any that haven't seen this already. College all star teams beat Super Bowl champs on more than one occasion back in the day.

Chicago College All-Star Game - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yes...and they ended in the mid-70's with the college all-stars losing the last dozen or so. When the NFL truly started to become a professional league in the mid-60's the college all-stars were never going to win another one.

Alabama vs the lowly Jaguars would turn out the same as Alabama vs Georgia State...with the better team winning in a landslide. Offensive & Defensive linemen peak at 28-30...not 20-23. Yes, there are 23 year old lineman in the country that can start in the NFL...no team has 10-12 of them to man an NFL roster.
