Some people also consider hell a bad place. Maybe you'll find it to be different. Just saying.

Wow, because I disagree with you and think MLK Day should be a holiday, you think I'm going to hell.

Don't believe in it, not worried about it... but very Christian of you. LOL

No, it was other comments you made. But I apologize. I should not have said that, and I am sorry for getting so touchy. I love this board for its humor. Don't care to get involved in heated debates. Again, my bad.

So because ESPN does a special that means blacks are looking for sympathy? Specials don't CREATE people's attitudes and prejudices, they are a marking measure for where we stand in society... and we still have a ways to go.

I cant speak for the entire race, but most of my friends say I'm not black for this reason among others. I hate handouts and Affirmative Action, cant stand watching football or basketball, and I like baseball, hockey, rock, and house music.

I'm not saying Jeff is 100% right, but there is some truth to it. There are alot of black people, maybe the majority maybe not, that DO look for sympathy and handouts most of the time.

Most of them were telling me I should have been happy to been on unemployment, I get to get paid for doing nothing. F that. I worked my ass off for years to get that money, and even then I couldnt touch the most of it because I left that job too long ago to collect anything from it.

I wasn't saying all Blacks... but these special coverage shows ESPN showcases do nothing but make things worse. They point out things that are changing on their own slowly on their own. When stuff, that I dont believe to be true, is highlighted and drilled into peoples brains it causes the topic to take a few steps back rather than forward.

Yeah well, MLK's birthday isn't always automatically a Monday. It's the day the event is observed, not the actual date in history.

But yeah, Jesus totally wasn't born in December.

at least its in the same month! lol

ESPN is worse than Fox News, MSNBC, and the other news networks when it comes to the dribble/hate speech that they spout. What makes them worse are the facts that there really arent two sides going at it like Fox News and MSNBC and also people care more about sports than they do politics so they're gonna watch ESPN and their hoard of talking heads more than will of the "news" networks

Didn't see it don't watch allot of ESPN but the fact they would even bring that up is just sad. An athletes race gender or religion should have no bearing on what they do on the field of play.I personally find it to be horse shut that they can talk about that but 90% of the time they won't give hockey the light of day.just the other night I happened to have the end of sportsccenter on just to here about an amazing save during the islanders game that they had no time to show.bottom line is they need to get their priorities straight . Between reality shows that involve watching teenagers play madden and shows like the one you brought up they are gaining the credibility of mtv.as far as race religion or sexual preference we all have our assholes and that's what we should be judging people on.

I just repeated this joke to a few of my buddies. Big hit. Of course, I took full credit.

I remember reggie roby was a black hunter but didn't randal Cunningham kick a fieldgoal once when their kicker got hurt

True, but many don't, which I believe is what the special is focused on.

Jim Crow laws vs. a black President? I don't think so. We still have work to do, but equality is far closer today than 50 years ago, or even 20.

Atleast MTV has a valid reason to not show many music videos. Record companies charge MTV a shit-ton of money just to show 1 music video and in turn not too many advertisers want to buy ad time around the music videos.

Didn't see the special but from what everyones saying it sounds more detrimental than productive
If they are trying to say white people have an advantage with certain sports due to environment or money save us the senseless babble.Sounds to me like they are more interested in using the topic for ratings. If the truly care about the topic actions speak louder than words do something.I know of several hockey players and organizations who have programs to get equipment and ice time to underpriveledged children and youths which I find to be amazing. That I have allot of respect for.The main thing I question is ESPNs intentions and based off their track record over the past few years I can't say I have allot of faith in them.

I think the trouble here is that a lot of people are commenting on racial issues generally that are outside the scope of what is covered in the special. IMO, the ESPN thing has some pertinent and interesting findings. So when you say it "sounds" like this or that, understand that almost nobody here is discussing what was actually covered in the show.

For example (I'm guestimating from memory here), something like 65% of black sports fans have a positive view of Michael Vick, while only 26% of white sports fans do. That was surprising to me. Personally, I thought Vick was a cool story this year. What he did was AWFUL, but I find something very American about his return to glory and the genuine remorse he seemed to show. I thought this was a generally held view, so it surprised me the difference in opinion on him was so stark based purely on race. I think it's a valid and interesting story.

If others think it's a ratings grab, okay, I see that view point, but we're not actually discussing the content of the special and it would appear few in this thread have seen it.
