What he did was AWFUL, but I find something very American about his return to glory and the genuine remorse he seemed to show. I thought this was a generally held view, so it surprised me the difference in opinion on him was so stark based purely on race. I think it's a valid and interesting story.
.

Whats sad is that right now its even more American to not want to see him get back up. Somewhere along the way most of this country stopped beliving in 2nd chances.

For example (I'm guestimating from memory here), something like 65% of black sports fans have a positive view of Michael Vick, while only 26% of white sports fans do. That was surprising to me. Personally, I thought Vick was a cool story this year. What he did was AWFUL, but I find something very American about his return to glory and the genuine remorse he seemed to show. I thought this was a generally held view, so it surprised me the difference in opinion on him was so stark based purely on race. I think it's a valid and interesting story.

I don't think that white people are less supportive of Vick because he's black. I think white people just tend to be a little more sensitive to animal cruelty. At least where I live, dog fighting is totally a cultural/race thing.

The day to observe the death of Jesus is Good Friday, not Christmas. No one gets Good Friday off :(

You need to work for my company then...

That is still funny to me. The best comedy always has some truth to it.

Can we settle this with a nice, friendly, racist game of chess? White versus Black, and White gets first move. :D

I think we need Darren Pang to post in this thread, and show us the white way to think about the whole thing.

People will almost always be more sympathetic to people of their own race. That's something that will never go away. But there is no reason to do specials on it, just causes more tension in the sports realm. I'm just really sick of blacks looking for sympathy and reparations for all they had to deal with. It's over, move on.

Yeah, they are always knocking at my door asking for sympathy and cash.

Michael Vick actually came to my house to convince me to buy some of his poodle-shaped cookies. Then when I gave him neither sympathy nor cash, he kicked my cat on the way out.

without a doubt people are largely more sympathetic of their own race,

however espn has been playing this card for years in a way. never vocally, but guys like scott, and that one angry basketball analyst, i don't think they'd willingly speak to a white person off camera.

i personally also believe this is the image they, to a degree, want to portray. i do think hockey would be on espn sooner than later if it weren't for this. its got a good amount to do with the image they want to broadcast. and rigth now, their target audience isn't your middle aged white male.

I get it at my door a lot. Two, three times a week. And at most intersections near my apartment. And at most convenience stores near my apartment. It gets pretty fucking annoying.

I was just being a sarcastic dick. Sorry that you actually do get bothered for cash in your neighborhood. There are some highway exits near downtown that always have guys standing at the light with signs reading "father needs money to feed family, anything helps", etc. I feel bad for the legit cases, but part of me wants to pull over any time I see a McDonalds or Family Video with a "now hiring" sign up, and take out a stack of applications to hand out whenever I run into someone begging for change. Maybe if Michigan unemployment wasn't among the worst in the country I would do it, but I know there are a lot of people that are just straight fucked.

I remember reading about a guy who would get around $1200 a week panhandling, but he was also a lawyer, and lived in a really nice house with a BMV or something.

There have been lots of TV news exposes on guys like that. They would install cameras and watch dudes beg for change at highway exits, then at the end of the day walk around the corner and leave in a Range Rover or something.

I didnt like on the show when they said that the next segment was for whites only and for everyone else to turn away from the TV and mute it for the next 14 minutes.
Plus when they interviewed Paul Rodriguez and referred to him as "national Hispanic spokesman" I thought that was odd.
