Wouldn't be surprised if the NBA changes the block/charge rule, especially after seeing Giannis get hurt like that.
I would like to see the defender set for a full second or extend the area out a bit more.

Can’t do that.

If the defender has to be set for a full second, a charge would never happen.

Already enough rules favoring offense. Take away charges and it would just get stupid. That is like the one thing defense has to keep the offense honest.

They should honestly just get rid of it. Standing in someones landing space and falling over is pretty lame in general.

That is a bad take.

Can’t get rid of charges.

Tell that to the 1998 Utah Jazz

And let's just keep posting about a thing that didn't get called and didn't change the outcome and can't be undone and has nothing to do with enjoying the game. Refs refs refs, so interesting!
You can easily find another thread to post on. You're getting your panties in a bunch because we are discussing a shitty missed call in overtime of a swing game in a playoffs series. That called could have unofficially ended philly season if harden misses that shot. Refs shouldn't miss the obvious stuff especially not at that point of the game

Man did Philly escape.

Horford blocked Embiid’s shot 3 times down the stretch!

It was Harden and PJ Tucker who made the big plays in the big moments.

The push off was a horrible miss. 2 minute report is lying their ass off if they say that wasn't missed. Does Maxey have to fall down before they'll call anything?
The league rewards flopping so yes. He has to fall down to get that call. That shouldn’t be especially when people who have played know that when you get that 50/50 call on Embiid (was that the very next possession? Or later?) and Tatum gets 3 feet of space on an extension push off that gets whistled. That’s the problem I have. Tough game to officiate. A real crew pounces on that opportunity. Can’t say that’s not a foul. Tatum gains an advantage. On the Embiid play, a guy is winning on a loop hole. Defense gets broken down and beaten and this guy comes in late? That’s not an offensive foul to gain an advantage. Basketball skill won him the advantage.

Which is why sending a double there made no sense in a 2 pt game.

But they will. And They always have.

It is part of the game.

Discussion about it is fine.

But it is unrealistic to just say “they shouldn’t miss the obvious stuff”. They are doing the best they can.

Change the system or the results will always be the same.

Probably need to talk about it for a few more pages just to be safe.

I need to watch philly final possession again. How did Tatum end up on Embiid and Horford end up on tucker?

I don’t mind the double, just needed to be from the weak side of the floor.

Bad decision.

Why have the reviews in the final 2 minutes then if they aren't going to look at it? The best they can do is doing the correct job imho

I already proposed my change. Under my proposed change, Doc would have had his 2nd challenge available to get the easy reversal

Charges are a necessary evil. I hate the defense getting bailed out by going limp and not making a play on the action with a challenge of verticality or a little man to make a swipe at the ball. You can’t do away with charges. I agree. But I’ll always have the opinion it’s bush league ball. In full disclosure, I can’t stand Duke or Coach K and that has helped craft my opinion quite a bit through the years.

That still wouldn’t fix it because you can’t review non-calls.

They need to do a lot more than that.

Human officials always going to miss calls like that in big moments.

Non-calls can be reviewed in my proposal because we both know refs miss about 20 calls at minimum per game and of course some of those fall under non-calls

It can’t be understated that Philly has lacked toughness throughout the process. This man is trying to earn his money being a professor and teaching toughness. If Embiid closes like a pussy again, PJ has my permission to kick his ass.

Until there is some type of technology assist that basically takes the human element out of officiating, this will happen.

There is no way to review non-calls under the current rules.

My guess is a rotation because of the double that came on Embiid.

I might even say most are non-calls.

I would love for non calls to be reviewable. But there is also a big give and take with number of challenges and pace of play.

Just giving a 2nd challenge when the first is successful isn’t enough to get the results that you want.
